    Didn't realize there was a "don't use crappy controller" scheme.

    The multiplayer was great and because of Goldeneye almost every single game after it started to put some form of multiplayer in their games.

    Graphics wise, the comparitive game in the day was a PC game. for a console game, goldeneye looked great.

    If you're saying the game is shit because of the n64's controller design, you are reatarded. Hardware limitations should be taken into account when judging a game. They did all they could to deal with it, hell, you could even set it up to use 2 sticks over 2 control pads, not to mention the before the n64 there were no dual stick controllers for consoles (apart from the virtual on sticks, but they don't count), so it was still a step up from previous efforts on consoles.


    Also, Goldeneye had a great impact on how developers saw multiplayer in console games. Even a douche with a LJ quiz result in their sig could see that.

    It was the best console FPS at the time, at a time when all console FPS games were crap in his opinion. I also think he is stating while many people were turned onto FPS games and multiplayer games with Goldeneye, he was not (as he was turned on to these two things many years prior) and cannot relate to why it is a big deal.

  7. Actually, I think his point is that playing a FPS with a controller is like playing a platformer with a keyboard. Sure, you can, and it's functional, but it still sucks.

    Not that I agree with him. Obviously the KB&M combo is better than using a controller, but Goldeneye had a damn good single player game, even considering PC FPS (which were really quite dull for the most part if you weren't playing multi).

    Quake 2's single player scenario is the biggest piece of shit I've ever played, alot like every other id FPS before it. Wow, you shoot shit, go through tan post-apocalyptic corridors, shoot shit, go through corridors, shoot more shit and go through corridors, and maybe, occasionally you will grab a primary coloured key, I'M EXCITED! The only thing it had going for it was multiplayer, which was pretty kickass.

    Under id's watch, FPS were going nowhere. Between Wolfenstein 3D, Doom and Quake; the only real innovation to gameplay was mouselook. Apart from that, it's the same "shoot shit in corridors and collect primary coloured keys" gameplay.

    GoldenEye 007 on the other hand was revolutionary because it filled an FPS game up with variety and actual motivation. Each mission had different things to do (plant explosives, collect dossiers, assasinate important people, escape areas, infilitrate areas, shoot shit in corridors, etc.), and there was a lot of variety in the locations and weapons. Not to mention, they were challenging, a whole generation of gamers tried and tried and tried until they unlocked all the cheats; or completed REALLY challenging areas like Aztec.

    I can't believe people worship id's shitfests. Valve, Bungie, and Rare/Free Radical piss on Carmack and Romero. id are only good for making engines, and even then Valve can piss in their Cheerios.

    On a side note, I didn't like Goldeneye either. :-P Single player got boring about half way through and multiplayer just seemed too slow. On a related note, I did like Time Splitters 2 a lot.
