Thread: Visual Concepts vs EA

  1. The MLB is really nothing against madden so it's not that big a move.

The NBA said a while back that they gain more money with multiple games than they would with an exclusive deal. I don't think the NBA will sign a deal.

The real reason people sypport VC is becuase they made good games year in and out. They are more respected than tiburon is now. Also the fact that existing first-party baseball games like Mario baseball and High Heat will still compete really improve VC image.

Joust Willaims example is a bit extreme ,but sums it up pretty well.

  2. Great. The kiss of death.

  3. Jeremy, Kano and Diffx both know they're supporting the wrong side but are doing it to waste your time. Let it go.

Exclusivity is a stupid game but EA made it a game that has to be played to survive. If it was me I'd do what VC is doing, buy exclusivity and then give the finger to EA by locking them out while letting everyone else in. Petty, spiteful, and vindictive as all fuck.

  4. THIS IS AN OUTRAGE. Exclusive rights? This is nothing but undercut gobbletee gook. They're threatened that EA is so amazing at sculpting genius sports franchises. Nothing but propaganda and desperation on the part of Sega.

  6. SNK Playmore should release a new Baseball Stars and crush all.

  7. James, I'm not supporting EA at all. Hell, I've been opposed to the shit they pulled since they started. EA forced their hand, and left them with no option but to fight fire with fire. As a result, the consumer suffers. This could all lead to more creative game design since they won't be weighed down by the limits of a license, but the fact that it'll be forced creativity instead of organic hurts it.

I'll use the 16-bit days as an example. Then, we had tons of creative, unlicensed sports games coming out. Ironically, EA's Mutant League games were the highlight of this, and they complimented their licensed games well. If you didn't care about licenses, like myself, you could just go with these games and have a lot of fun, with none of the needless BS in the licensed games. The unlicensed stuff worked hand-in-hand with the licensed games. Now, due to EA's greed, that won't be the case, at least for football. We all, as consumers, get to suffer thanks to their actions, as does the industry as a whole, which EA doesn't give a shit about.

  8. If this ends up as less gaming resources going to making sports games, I think that makes us all winners.

Im not gonna get into the other stuff in this thread, but I'd like to point out something here. You bring up Mutant League games, and Im wondering if the game makers will take EA's actions as a que to make similer off-the-wall type sports games. God I'd love that to happen. Cause the Street series just doesnt do it for me.

I mean, if they cant make football with the NFL license, why no go off and create something completely different? Sure Sega Soccer Slam was rather base and dull after w hile, but it was stil fun to play on occasion. If something like that had more depth to it, but still offered Hong Kong action flick theatrics, I'd be one happy gamer.
    A is for action
