  2. I've worked at Gamestop. I got framed for stealing two PS2s by a manager, and then I got accused of 'missing a shift,' because the same manager pissed off an employee that was supposed to work there had quit earlier and the manager didn't want to fess up to the embarrassment of having someone quit on him, and tried to write it off on me. I quit immediately after he tried to pull that shit.

Here is the non-summarized version of the story.

I worked there for a year, top performed consistently, then they tried to move my two managers to a different store to 'clean it up' after they cleant up this store, and so they both quit. When the new manager came in, I was going to get transferred to a different store to assistant manage. When he found out I was the top performer there, in terms of subs and resos every month since I started, he was desperate to do anything to keep me, except for promote me, so when I was about to move to a new store, that's when he framed me. They couldn't prove that I actually stole anything, but since that was in the air surrounding me, I lost my opportunity to get promoted, and I had to stay at his store for a couple more months until I quit for the manager trying to lie to me about my shift.

The other guy who quit, he quit because he was asked to do a shift at another store, 'the ghetto store' if you will, and he declined, so the manager of the other store told the manager of our store to give him the least hours. The assistant manager at the other store was best friends with the guy who declined to work at the ghetto store, and he immediately told the guy about this conspiracy. Sure enough, he checked his hours for the week that Sunday, and he only got five hours for the entire week. He quit immediately. That's when our manager called me trying to say that I was late for the shift I was apparently supposed to work that day.

Pretty much, the two good managers who I mentioned earlier that were told to move were asked to move because the manager that replaced them was the district leader, and our store was the highest volume store and he wanted more responsibility so he could move to corporate. The guys were pretty much given the ultimatum to either move to the ghetto store or quit. So they quit.

    We all got jewed.

    Retail sucks.

I did retail for 2 years, (when I was 20) it was a pretty good experience. The biggest letdown was the pay. It sure beats working on a production line in a factory ... or in the back of UPS truck, unloading boxes. (I did both of those also)
I agree, retail is a great experience because of the people-skills you gain. No matter what you do in life, your always selling, be it the products that you sell in the store you work at, or when you move on to bigger and better things, yourself and your abilities. The greatest skill I learned in retail was the ability to turn a customer's apprehensive and confrontational attitude into a great experience for them by simply giving them what they expect, and keeping your cool. Ever been to Best Buy and had those shitheads shrug you off and not care about what you are there for? If you have a genuine interest in helping people out, then sales can be very rewarding. If you are a grumpy cocksucker of a salesperson, it just makes YOUR job that much harder, cause the people you deal with will treat you like shit.

Hey, I was an ASM at Gamestop, and I hired people. If your app was twice as good as your best post here I would have never set up an interview with you, becuase you appear to be an idiot. You asked an honest question I gave you an honest answer.

Also, mine's not a high horse, I think that's already been addressed in my signature.

They do an interesting cover of a Postal Service song. Everything else is just kind of dull.

  10. A couple months in retail is nothing.

Try a few years before you consider yourself 'seasoned' enough to give advice.

EVERYTHING is good at first. I've worked retail 5 years now and 4 years of McDonalds before that. Pretty much retail sucks because of stupid customers pushing their ignorance on you and your managers sticking up for them and not you. Even if you are right.

Too bad I don't care and customers seemingly are very easy to outwit and you usually can catch them in their lies. Which is fun.
