Thread: Vegetarianism

  1. well.. err.. things with wings.. then..
and your all just jealous cause you have never seen a chicken or a turkey fly..

Its like in that simpsons episode where they go to the zoo, and when no one is looking all the penguins fly away..
You can never be one of the dead, because something that has no existence can have no community.

do you have any recommendations for balancing your diet? When I became vegetarian I just stopped eating meat, so I don't think I'm getting enough protein. I swear I get cold easier too, a friend of mine said it's probably iron, I've hear beans/nuts/tofu are good for protien but the only thing I've heard of for iron is spinach (sp?) and I'm not a huge fan.

Spinach is the best source of iron available, plant or animal, except for some common wild vegetables or weeds. Many other green leafies are also good. After a few weeks, these things will become far more palatable(your tastes will change, I swear). Spinach is also very easy to cook many ways, try it on pizza if you're not vegan, or in a burrito or taco salad. As for protein, what you have heard about deficincies is generally a myth (made up by meat companies after the publication of The Jungle). Beans & rice in tandem create a perfect protein, and I really like tofu and tempeh as well when cooked right! Legumes and lentils are recommended. And nuts are some of the most perfect foods you can eat, according to Taoist masters. I also recommend eating lots of apples. Hummus will no doubt play a strong role in your diet. Seitan is also good, but it is pure wheat gluten pretty much. I will put up some web links for you in the next few days regarding the nutritional elements, and that may answer some of your questions more elaborately.

I already love hummus and medditerranean food in general (falafel is sex) I don't like cooked spinach hardly at all, but I'll give it a shot.

    Kill her.

Falafels are the best. I had one for lunch today. It was excellent.
Apples are are just really well balanced. The seeds, especially. Not super acidic like most fruits. If you have a choice, though, don't get the kind that are covered in petroleum wax.
