Thread: CN/AS gets more anime

  1. CN/AS gets more anime

Summer is Looking Hot A forum member of the Animation Insider community bulletin boards has recently noted Adult Swim's up and coming schedule. Additionally, there have been some announcements regarding the premiere of new and original programming as well as acquired television programming. Adult Swim is Cartoon Network's block of animated programming aimed specifically at adults ages 18-34. After achieving massive growth in ratings over the past few years, the awareness for the late night programming block has skyrocketed, and it would seem that very soon the fans will get what they want with regards to programming for the 2005-year.

Keep in mind that these announcements regarding the spring and summer schedule for Japanese animation, the announements come mere days following Cartoon Network's press regarding the general summer release schedule for Adult Swim. As previously reported by Animation Insider (News Article Available), the McFarlane programs Family Guy and American Dad will be on the late night block. Also, the Seth Green show Robot Chicken (More Info) will be joining the block in late February, wherein the soon to be produced The Boondocks (More Info) cartoon adaptation will be airing on the network in the fall of this year.

    * MOVIES: Although previously known, it has been reiterated that the Metropolis, Inuyasha, Cowboy Bebop feature films are currently scheduled to air on Adult Swim later on in the year. Presently, the schedule does not say when. Additionally, it would appear that Adult Swim is currently looking at even more films to showcase, but none however were disclosed.
    * ADV TITLES: It has also been reported that Adult Swim may in fact license the rights to deliver another A.D. Vision, Inc. anime series (the first being The Super Milk-chan Show). Of course, Adult Swim scheduling executives are currently unable to give specifics at the moment, but we are hearing "pretty likely."
    * CASE CLOSED: The lengthy series Case Closed will be back on the Adult Swim schedule, currently, there is apparently not enough room for it on the busy schedule right now. About Case Closed: Within the high stakes world of police work exists a surplus of capable detectives. These detectives work with police to uncover the clues needed to track down and apprehend the vilest criminals. Jimmy Kudo is just such a detective. But there is something unique about Jimmy... he is still in high school! As Jimmy aids the frustrated Officer Meguire in a homicide investigation at a crowded amusement park, two mysterious men in black assault the super sleuth and feed him an experimental drug, which causes him to shrink to childhood size. Now, as the indomitable Detective Conan, Jimmy must seek out clues to his assailants as he struggles to keep his secret from the one person he cares for most.
    * TRIGUN: The fan favorite series Trigun will also be back, it would appear that a weekday schedule is in order, as well as a return to the schedule in March 2005. About Trigun: The legendary Vash the Stampede is a gunfighter so ruthless that he has a $$60 Billion bounty on his head and entire towns evacuate at the rumor of his arrival. Fortunately, the real Vash the Stampede is more heroic - even if he does act like a complete idiot. Couple it with two insurance representatives trying to locate and stop him, and you've got a terrific gun slinging comedy!
    * SAMURAI CHAMPLOO: The action series Samurai Champloo has apparently been acquired and will begin airing sometime in the summer of this year. Read about Samurai Champloo: Mugen's a buck wild warrior - violent, thoughtless and womanizing. Jin is a vagrant ronin - mysterious, traditional, well mannered and very strong as well. These two fiercely independent warriors couldn't more different from one another, yet their paths cross when Fuu, a ditzy waitress, saves them from being executed when they are arrested after a violent swordfight. Fuu convinces the two vagrant young men to help her find a mysterious samurai "who smells of sunflowers." And their journey begins.
    * PARANOIA AGENT: And the psychological thriller series Paranoia Agent from the talented Satoshi Kon has apparently been acquired and will begin airing sometime in the summer of this year. Read about Paranoia Agent: After the first victim's story, the police felt the overly stressed woman was having a breakdown and lied to cover-up for some crime. However, after the third and fourth attacks upon unrelated victims led to the same description of a young attacker with a golden baseball bat and in-line skates, the police had to wonder - is the "Lil' Slugger" real or some kind of sinister phantom?
    * FLCL: Furi Kuri is reportedly taking a rest, but will return to the line-up when the schedule dictates necessary. About the OVA FLCL: 12-year-old Naota already has enough to deal with at home. Both his father and grandfather are more than a little eccentric and less than a little mature. Not to mention the girlfriend his brother left behind, who is now making advancements on him. Now to top everything off, a self-proclaimed alien, Haruhara Haruko, comes bursting on the scene. Naota is the key to her mission and the weirdness has only just begun.
    * BLUE GENDER: The network reportedly still maintains the rights to the science fictions series Blue Gender. There is a decent chance that the program will air once again in the far future. About Blue Gender: A young man named Yuji awakes disoriented inside a sleeping pod under heavy military escort. During a surprise attack by the alien creatures called Blue, he witnesses the deaths of his protectors. As he attempts to make an escape flashback memories fill his mind. A startling discovery causes him to scream in horror, and he soon finds himself surrounded. What terrifying truth has Yuji learned and how will he ever escape Blue?
    * INUYASHA: More specifically regarding the anime series Inuyasha, Adult Swim has reportedly acquired the show on through episode one hundred sixty-seven (167). Wherein on television, the television series is only through the mid eighties. This takes viewer through the entire television series of Inuyasha. Many individuals believe though, that even though the television series has ended, there are strong chances of the series truly finding an "ending" in direct-to-video releases, which often generate as much, if not more popularity. About Inuyasha: Fifteen-year-old schoolgirl Kagome Higurashi, whose family tends a shrine, falls into an old well one day and literally tumbles into ancient Japanese history. On the other side she meets Inu yasha, the dog-like demon who claims she smells just like the woman who fifty years ago pinned him with her arrow to a tree, where he's been all this time. Unwilling allies at first, the two become closer as their search for the sacred "Jewel of Four Souls" continues. If Kagome really is the reincarnation of the shrine-maiden Kikyo, can it be that she's becoming jealous of herself...?

The BEST Action CartoonsAfter an entire year of successful original programming, the Cartoon Network has recently finished its annual programming conference with high hopes for the up and coming year. This year, the company broke a wide variety of stories; pertaining to new television series' for all demographics, and with regards to all of their increasingly popular programming blocks as well. For the rest of the 2005-year, expect some high quality and well produced animation to hit the airwaves.

This particular article of press is an announcement with regards to everything related to the incredibly popular Toonami programming block. For all of your info on Toonami and all of its programming, visit Animation Insider's Toonami website, at ANX.aifandom.com.
Toonami’s 2005 schedule is loaded with new series, all-new episodes of the best action-animé programming and the premiere of IGPX, the first Toonami original series. Toonami is Cartoon Network’s popular action-animé programming block which airs Saturday nights from 7-11 p.m. (ET, PT).

IGPX (The Immortal Grand Prix), set to debut in November, takes viewers inside the world of the Immortal Grand Prix with a team on their way to the championship match. For the new series, Cartoon Network partnered with Production I.G., the famed Japanese animation studio responsible for Ghost in the Shell and animation sequences in Kill Bill

he year is 2048 and the “IGPX,” has become the world’s most-popular sport. It’s so big that an entire city was built for the racing industry, and competitions takes place on a huge, 60-mile track called “The Big Eye.” In the “Immortal Grand Prix,” two teams of three giant robots, driven by human pilots, race at speeds greater than 350 mph. Team Satomi, a crew of amateur pilots, has just won a minor-league championship and now finds themselves vaulted into the sport’s highest level- the IG-1. Now, the untested rookies of Team Satomi must overcome impossible odds and beat the world’s most skilled pilots (and ruthless opponents) in the planet's biggest event, the “Immortal Grand Prix.”

In other news in addition to IGPX in 2005, Toonami will air a new series about the early days of The Dark Knight, four new acquisitions and new episodes of Teen Titans and Justice League Unlimited. Highlights of the Toonami programming line-up for 2005 are as follows:

    New Series:
The Batman: Based on the famed DC Comics superhero and the most complex and intriguing character in comic-book history, The Batman, has its Cartoon Network premiere on Saturday, April 2, at 8:30 p.m. (ET, PT). In his mid-20s, The Batman is just finding his way as protector, defender and Dark Knight while balancing his public persona as billionaire bachelor Bruce Wayne, the seemingly laid-back heir to a multibillion-dollar fortune and honorary CEO of Wayne Industries. Living in Gotham, this younger Batman confronts each member of his classic Rogues Gallery for the first time, including Joker, Penguin, Catwoman, Mr. Freeze, Riddler and Man-Bat, among others.

    Acquisitions:
Zatch Bell: The new series takes viewers to the world of good and evil demons as Zatch Bell seeks to become the benevolent king over all of the demons that have come to Earth to conduct the ultimate battle. Reluctant as he may be to fight against the evil demons, Zatch battles his adversaries with the help of his human friend, Kory. The power of the duo grows stronger as their relationship develops. Zatch Bell will air in March.

One Piece: A boy, whose body has the properties of rubber, and his friends are on the search for the treasure left behind by a pirate king called “One Piece.” Whoever finds this treasure will become King of the Pirates. One Piece will begin in May.

Naruto: Twelve years ago, a nasty demon decimated a village but was contained in a baby’s body. Now this antisocial boy, a student at a ninja academy, does not know that he is possessed. As he evolves as a ninja his inner demon gives him more and more powers. But he must learn to control them to become a master ninja without destroying those around him. The series is scheduled to air in third quarter.

Bobobo-bo Bo-Bobo: In this silly action series BoBoBo can talk to and understand hair. With the help of his blond hair, he is out to save the land from the Hair Patrol posse and their leader, Baldy Bald, who is forcing everyone to be bald. The action series is scheduled to air in fourth quarter.

    New Episodes of Returning Series:
Teen Titans: Led by Robin, the group forms a defensive force to protect their sunny hometown from a new generation of villains. When the group, which also includes Beast Boy, Raven, Starfire and Cyborg, are not battling bad guys, the Teen Titans live together in a T-shaped tower, playing video games and bickering about whose turn it is to do the dishes. New episodes bring new and exciting changes for the Teen Titans. Cyborg has his final showdown with Brother Blood, and the Teen Titans move to a new tower with five new members. Popular DC Comics characters, such as Aqualad, Bumblebee and Speedy, pitch in to help the Teen Titans in 17 new episodes that will air this year.

Justice League Unlimited: The Justice League, led by Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern, has grown much larger because the threats are even greater. This season, Black Canary, Shayera, Vigilante, Vixen and The Question step up to face such villains as Lex Luthor, Felix Faust and Tobias Whale. And Superman takes on Cadmus in a battle that will determine the future of the League. Twenty-three new episodes will air this year.

D.I.C.E: D.I.C.E (DNA Integrated Cybernetic Enterprises) is a large organization established to deal with emergencies occurring throughout the Sarbylion galaxy. D.I.C.E F-99 is the only unit comprised entirely of highly trained kids. When a problem arises, D.I.C.E is called to the rescue. And when their special training and skills aren’t enough, they rely on their Dinobreakers to help get the job done. Twenty-six episodes will air this year.

Dragonball GT: Goku, Trunks and Pan set out on their quest to recover the bizarre Black Star dragon balls, which were scattered across the entire galaxy after Goku was transformed into his boyhood state. If Goku cannot succeed in collecting the dragon balls, the planet on which the wish was made will explode. Goku has only one year to save Earth. The quest continues with 16 new episodes in 2005.

Duel Masters: The animé series about Shobu, a master of an engrossing playing card game who can bring the cards’ creatures to life, returns in March with twenty-six new episodes.

  2. Samurai Champloo has get me all shades of excited.

  3. i'm looking forward to IGPX. sounds pretty damn good.

  4. It's good to hear things are about to change on AS, it's gotten to the point that I don't even watch it any more, except on Saturday.

Okay, I'll just touch upon the things I know about:

    AS:

    - Fucking get rid of Family Guy already, enough is enough.

    - I'm looking foward to Robot Chicken and the Boon Docks.

    - It's nice to see them get all those movies as well.

    - I am really happy to see Case Closed come back, this show really grew on me. And even those it's SUPER PREDICTABLE and formulaic, it's a fun show that really got good right before it ended its run. New episodes of Inuyasha is nice as well.

    - Trigun and FLCL: Enough with the reruns, especially Trigun!

    - Blue Gender: This show is such trash.

    Toonami:

    - I didn't care much for the IGPX shorts, I don't know how I feel about it getting fleshed out into a full series.

    - New episodes of Teen Titans and JLU are always welcome, and it's good to hear about the batman, I could never catch it on saturday mornings.

    - I'm not too crazy about One Peice.

    - DICE, Duel Masters and DBGT stink.

  5. Isn't DBGT over already? How are their new episodes?

  6. Naruto?
Man, that could suck so bad.
    OMG <3 4EVA
Scourge:Azumanga Daioh is exactly the same thing as Ninja Scroll.
    buttcheeks: High school so weird

  7. Nobody is excited about Paranoia Agent? You all fucking suck.

Seriously, as much as I could care less about a lot of the "hot" anime that is out there, One Piece rocks. I watched a bit of it while in Japan, and actually enjoyed it.

    Oh, and:

    Dear Cartoon Network,

Please, for the love of GOD, take Inuyasha off of my television. If you need to fill that slot with a Takahashi anime, put on Maison Ikkoku. I will <3 you then.

    Your pal,
    - shidoshi
