Good post.... the type of rudimentary beats and fills that even Slayer would be ashamed to insert as the rhythmic backbone in one of their albums.
Ageist.I just looked at your profile for the first time. You're 20. It all makes sense now.

It counts for something when you didn't live through the things you're criticizing.

"Had to be there."
I see!
I agree with you to the extent that there are events in the past with insufficient documentation that can never be experienced again, and for that reason, cannot be fully understood by those that did not experience it, but with the advents of recorded music and the Internet—which gives us easy access to interviews, biographies, live videos, etc.—we are able to—at least as much as a vicarious experience can— experience exactly what an artist was experiencing during a particular period of artistic creation, and accordingly, what he/she wants us to also experience with a particular work (again assuming that we are attuned to and interested in those intentions).
So to simplify:
You're right in regards to some things, but I don't support that line of logic when it comes to properly preserved music.

Red Sky > SotS
100%. No questions.
I mean, SotS still rules, in a kind of catchy generic way, but seriously... nowhere near as good.
Maybe I meant "still rules, in a catchy simple way". As opposed to lol-metalcore.See, what you guys aren't getting is that wasn't generic at all when it came out.
Also:
Rwake - Voices of Omens
&
Minsk - The Ritual Fires of Abandonment
Best albums of 2007. And they're touring together.
