After that the only thing you will have to battle is the mental addiction which is essentially just breaking the habit of smoking cigarettes (i.e. the cigs you have everytime you get into a car, or after you eat).

Kudos to you trying to go cold turkey, you're a stronger man than I.

yeah after a week or so its just the oral fixation. I have never gotten that sick form quitting (I've quit for substantial periods of time before, six months, three months) so I can't relate. The actual activity of lighting a cigarette when you do things that used to involve you smoking was and is the hardest thing to shake.

Y'know I have the same thing, I never got into drugs or drinking. But smoking is the biggest exception.

I am very addicted to smoking.

  2. I smoked my first cigarette when I was 12, I loved it, and I love it now, but I'm definately not addicted.

I hear they're giving out Wellbutrin through stop smoking programs these days.

  3. I tried to quit one day when I had a day long hang over. I wanted to smoke, but when I did it made me sick so I abstained. The next day came and I felt fine. I decided since I went a whole day without, I'd try going two. I did... and it was hard. By 7 pm, I was really wanting one. I broke by the third.
    o_O

  4. As I told you, I've seen my dad and his whole little army of doctor coworkers preach to a lot of family members about this one so I'm not just talking out of my ass. Get help in the form of a product. The patch, the gum, whatever. You might think they're a gimick and don't actually work or cost too much but I've personally seen the patch help at least two people from going insane while trying to quit, and that chewing gum help an aunt who had tried to quit on her own or with a TV product more time than I can remember. It won't be that expensive to try, so you may as well give it a shot. The gum, as a side perk, gives you something to physically do when you get a craving. Being able to chew the gum and mess with it in her mouth seemed to be the selling point for my aunt.

I can't get addicted to that shit, because it all comes back to the same base addiction: video games. They override everything else.

  6. I quit smoking three weeks ago, it wasn't too tough but then I didn't smoke for that long in the first place.

The obnoxious thing is smelling smoke. It sucks because it wakes you want one, but it's kind of comforting too.

  7. If you replace your cravings for a cigarette with say tea or coke, you will eventually win.

Then you replace your coke/tea addiction with something less additive like go for a walk or exercise and you will get rid of that addiction.

Basically, stop smoking. If you like it or not. You will die from it and I doubt you want that very much.

  8. btw guys that's pixelassassin.

Now that I can agree with. There are probably two addictions I could never give up (mostly because I don't want to): videogames and soda.
    Time for a change

  10. Just about 72 hours and counting now, physical sickness was there today but not as strong as yesterday and the mental cravings are getting worse, especially while driving and during breaks at work, if I don't have them it's not a problem, I've even resisted temptation of bumming one from a few people. Things are going well here.
