Their Mortal Kombat defense is weak. There were also 'Friendships' in MK 2. If these kids really wanted to blame MK for their actions, they should of said they messed up while trying to give him a present.
I'd say the Bible, only because it has shaped the entire society. You can be more into games as a kid, but the Judeo-Christian standard is the value norm in this culture, whether you're Christian or not.

I am not joking. If anything Jesus and the violence surrounding him is more glorified.
It's glorified in a different way, but it impresses itself on children in a similar way.
