Thread: The NCAA Tournament Thread

  1. The NCAA Tournament Thread

The tournament doesnt start for a couple weeks AFAIK. But its getting to be close. We have Championship Week coming, which is always fun.

My UCLA Bruins are FINALLY acting like the team they are supposed to be after going 22-36 the past two seasons (11-19, 11-17). We are now 18-9, with 11-7 in the Pac-10 - which is the 2nd toughest conference in basketball according to the RPI. We're getting into the tournament. Maruchan's Washington Huskies are one of the top teams in the country though a shitty lost to an underachieving Stanford knocked them down a few pegs.

Also, Ohio State beat Illinois today. I have my doubts about Illinois now - this is eerily reminiscient of St. Joe's last year (though Ohio State did play a perfect 2nd half to win).

Also, Kentucky, which always has a shot in the tournament, lost to Florida. But Kentucky's a young team, and Florida is a good one.

I think losing may actually help Illinois in the tournament, since they know what it feels like to be let down. I'm having trouble getting excited at ll this year though. The overall level of play is clearly down over the last couple of years, thanks to the thug league raiding high schools to find new prospective criminalsto draft. It also doesn't help that my alma mater lost 20 games for the first time in 107 years of basketball.

So the NBA can rape the very best high school players and have no effect on the college game? I guess you are right about not thinking.

The college game is just fine whether or not the NBA plucks a few top high school players. You act like the NBA is picking up half the viable high school players every year, this is nonsense. In last year's draft, 9 of the 59 players were from high school. OH NO! Compare this to the 900 or 1000 high school players that enter college every year. CATASTROPHE!

If anything, it brings some sense of parity to the college game because those players, who may or may not be gamebreakers, dont go into college and turn teams like Duke into year-after-year locks.

Just be honest, your team sucked ass this year so you havent been paying attention. Its no big deal.

  8. The RPI is a piece of junk this year, and the fact that the Pac-10 is the 2nd highest ranked conference is further proof. It's top heavy with only one poor team, really, but the only two teams worth anything are Arizona and Washington, neither of which would win the Big East, Big 12, Big 10 or ACC.

I'm a Husky. I get to say that.

If you're a parity fan in any sport, then there's no point reasoning with you. I guess the high school to NBA leap is a positive change, like a salary cap in the NFL.

  10. West Virginia upset Boston College today. This is great stuff. I love college sports.

And Rutgers beat Notre Dame, probably putting a nail in ND's quest for a tournament invite. It was their 2nd fucking big east win!
