I truely expected you to just 'lawl' at that comment.

    Mandatory insurance sucks though.

Barring that (or if that happens and things still get worse), implement size restrictions on cars owned by people within the city. There's no reason you need a Hummer, SUV, or big pickup truck in the city... and those coming in from outside the city with those vehicles should face an extra toll to discourage them from bringing them in and taking up valuable space.

There really is no silver bullet to the oil problem, cars aren't even all of the problem. We use oil for nearly every single thing. We're an energy driven society the world 'round. We need find solutions (many we have already) to mitigate the reliance on oil, whilst working on solutions that would free us from the need to use oil much at all. It doesn't matter if you belive we're running out, it doesn't matter if you belive it's killing our ecosystem you have to acknowledge that nothing on this planet is infinite and sooner or later oil simply isn't going to be handy. I use Super Unleaded even though it costs more because my gas mileage is much better with it (not to save me money but efficency is always better), I'd use a Hybrid if I had one (can't just waltz out and buy one right now) but even those aren't real solutions. Just temporary relief.

Hello Houston. No reliable PT and a sprawl that makes the very idea of not owning a car absurd.

Eh, everyone already has the right to own a car. You just don't have the right to drive it on roads you don't personally own.

  3. Right now, I think our country considers driving a privilege, not a right - I think the right to drive a car if you own one needs to be constitutionally protected.

American Insurance is the biggest scam, ever. "What? You crashed your car, and now you actually need us, well we're going to up your premium for half a year, then cut you as a liability. Have a nice day."

Well I think that goes with the assumption that you are going to drive it on public roads.

I can buy a tank, but I don't have the right to drive it on public roads. I can own it and drive it on my land, but not on the public’s.

The right you really want is one that gives the right to own and operate a motor vehicle on private and public owned roads.

Hybrids are pointless. They hardly ever get the advertised mileage, some barely get better mileage than a TDI Diesel VW Golf.

We have an alternative fuel system that works quite well. Its called Biodiesel.

It just needs to be marketed and developed an a mass scale.

  7. I like not having to pay for the expenses of a car. On the other hand, sometimes I get assed out in the middle of the night when friends want to travel far.

NYC public transportation is awesome but expensive.

  8. Transportation wise, the year I spent living in Osaka was one of my favorite times ever. I loved not having a car to worry about, and the public transportation there was awesome.

Don't get me wrong - cars are nice to have, and sometimes you just need/want one. But, 95% of the time, I could get by just fine without a car, and would be much happier in doing so.

If they choose to do something restricting cars and such, I hope it isn't a nation wide thing. The south with it's small population per square mile density, would dry up and die with out cars.

I have to drive 30 minutes just to get guitar strings.

Somebody get a law passed banning cars in the south ASAP.
