Thread: Everything you need for the PSP such as guides, programs, emulation, etc is all HERE!

  1. I forget who had the concerns regarding the "update installer" applications saved to your memory stick. I recall now that once you've made the firmware update, it's safe to delete the application(s) from your memory stick. Just updated to 1.52 and it provides a similiar statement after the installation process.

  2. How many people here have a PSP free of dead pixels? I just returned my first machine, complete with five or six spread over the screen, and it kinda bugs me that my second one has a few, also.

On top of this, I can see a metal bar behind the square button, and there's space enough to slide my fingernail beneath the button. Struck me as odd.

Don't complain over five or six dead pixels. That's nitpicking and will not in anyway disrupt your game because everything will be moving too fast for you to even take notice (unless it's something slower like Lumines, in which case you might notice it while playing the game). Every PSP (and LCD screen) is bound to have dead pixels at some point, so don't bitch about it, seriously.

  4. Oh, believe me, I know it's nitpicking. There's no way in hell I can notice them during Wipeout, so I'll live. I'm just surprised at the frequency through two systems after hearing so many people saying they found one with zero dead pixels on the first try. Must not be as common as I thought.

I believe those are the skins. I'll try and see if I can find any or any info

I have dead pixel free. I also notice the metal bar behind the button but its also noticeable on the directional pad. I guess this is what holds the buttons in place.

OK, everyone can bow down to me. Here are your skins

These are Emulator Launchers for the new Swaploit 1.5 firmware hack with the skins included in them. These will only work for 1.5

I have also included skins that work for 1.0 firmware!

Mine is still without incident. *knock on wood*

  7. I thought mine didn't have any dead pixels for the first couple days, then I realized I had two but they're on the border so they're completely unnoticable no matter what unless you're specifically hunting for them. Unlike my DS, which had three dead pixels right in the middle of the top screen and I could always tell they were there.

  8. NOTE: If you plan to use this program be aware it will overwrite your original PSP Background Images permanently with each use, or even worse may permanently damage your PSP if misused... so use it with caution and read ALL included documentation first or simply don't try it if you aren't 100% confident with the required process involved.

PSPersonalize v1.0 for PSP v1.00 & v1.50 has been released. PSPersonalize is a PSP program that lets you replace the background images in your PSP menu. On the PSP, there are 12 backgrounds, one for every month as follows: 01.BMP - January, 02.BMP - February, 03.BMP - March, 04.BMP - April, 05.BMP - May, 06.BMP - June, 07.BMP - July, 08.BMP - August, 09.BMP - September, 10.BMP - October, 11.BMP - November, 12.BMP - December. This program allows you to replace any image you want with your own custom made images.

To insert your own images, simply put your own 24-bit BMP file in the root directory of your second memory stick. The filename should match the number of the month you want to replace. (Ex: I want to replace November so I would create a .BMP called 11.BMP and place it in my 2nd memory stick). Do NOT put these images in any of the directories in your memory stick, the software won’t find them in this case. Also, images can’t be any larger than 150k in size... that’s a resolution of about 300x170. The reason for this is that anything larger causes your PSP to not load the icons properly. Finally, these images must be 24-bit so do NOT use images that are 16-bit or 8-bit color.

I have attached the program and the original images if you want to put them back.

  9. If I have any dead pixils I have not caught them yet. I am looking too. Every once in a while I think I find one, but it ends up being dust on the screen. Unfortunatly my R button gets stuck easily... I am putting up with it though as I know I would have dead pixils and a sticky square button on the next one.

EDIT: The Shinobi homebrew (not emu) game that released did not work on my PSP. It got to some screen with Kanji. I let it load for like 5 min too just in case that was what it was doing. It never went past that screen and it also takes forever to go back to main PSP screen. DO NOT USE this game. I don't know what it does but it is not fun to worry about what it is doing.

  10. If you plan on using PSPersonalize, here is a link to custom images for your background

If you're using emulator/roms and something happened to your memory stick, you can fix it by following this guide..

Here is a guide to fix your corrupted Memory Stick (it's not dead, it's CORRUPTED)

You know it's corrupted if when the PSP starts up it accesses the stick, then after a few seconds the access light will simply blink. For some reason the PSP doesn't want to reformat it; it thinks there is no stick inserted.

1- Go to Best Buy, or whatever electronics store
2- Buy a PC Memory Stick-compatible card reader
3- Insert your Memory Stick in the reader
4- Format it using Windows (btw, when you do that, format it using FAT32. You'll squeeze a bit more space out of it)

Blammo. It doesn't die, it gets corrupted. It seems to happen mostly when putting the PSP into sleep mode while playing a rom; my guess is that people are sleeping the PSP while the emulator is accessing the stick for some reason.

Best way for this not to happen is to put the PSP to sleep mode while you are at the rom selector menu (or any other static emulator menu). There are a lot less chances of having Memory Stick accesses while in these menus.

Here are some intros similar to those skins I posted in my previous posts above.

Fully animated skins /w sound for your 1.5 Swaps. Place into your Memory Stick 1.

Intros for PSP are like skins for your PSP that run on the memory stick. But what makes an "Intro" so nice is that it can have animated icons and audio too.

Simply go to our downloads section and find the "1.5 Intros" and grab the intro for your emulator. Overwrite your Memory Stick 1 EBOOT.PBP for the emulator you chose.

  11. i want to let you know that if you plan on using the flash to avi encoding program located in the first page; be SURE to set your recording options' "stereo mix" really low or the sound will come out extremely loud and distorted.

i might also be whipping up a quick "how to" for converting videos to smaller size without much quality loss via virtualdub filters if the demand is high enough.

note: currently converting all of homestarrunner.com's Teen Girl Squad(which is comedy fucking gold). i'll let you know how it turns out in a future update/edit.

progress: ok, after finally getting this down i've run into another probable "snag". when turning some 'pre converted' flash files into mp4(via psp video 9), you might get a de-synch in audio(in the case of Teen Girl Squad, the audio would be ahead of the actual cartoon).

so to fix this i took the avi file(which was converted from flash), tossed the sumbitch into quicktime pro, and dumped it as an mp4 file there from there. what this allows you to do is guarentee that you dont have any video/audio problems(just take that mp4 file and toss it in the psp video 9 program and you're good to go).

it's a tad bit of a pain in the ass, but it's worth every damn second i've spent.

note: quicktime pro is not free and for those of you who dont want to pay for it, i'm sure you already have your means to get it.

  12. I went nuts with the PSP stuff again tonight and ended up making two simple, generic background's for my NES and Genesis emulators. See below~

  13. Well, this isn't a hack or anything -- but it looks like Sony may supposedly be announcing a TV tuner soon (click here for the image.)

    Article from PSPhacker:
Good news for mobile couch potatos: New image of official Sony TV tuner suggests you could soon be watching the box on the go.

If you fancy catching the latest instalment of Big Brother or that all important footie match on the go you could be in luck. Reports suggest that Sony is about to announce a TV tuner for the PSP, and we've got an image of it right here.

You may remember that Sony originally discussed such a piece of kit way back in 2002, but this solid-looking gadget has emerged from sources in Japan. It connects to your PSP via the Memory Stick Duo port and looks surprisingly small.

Sony has not commented on whether the PSP TV tuner will indeed be getting a release any time soon, but the electronics giant has confirmed in the past that it intends to embed TV functionality in its PDAs and hendheld devices.

Edit: I don’t see why Sony wouldn’t pursue this corner in their PSP market. This would really put Nintendo DS in a tight spot if we could watch TV on our PSP amongst everything else, plus it’s already on a memory stick ready to be put in!

    Sadly, that was me.

But which update lets you play UMD tracks?

1.52 lets you do that as well as "minor security tweaks."

What does that mean, anyway? Music tracks off the games or some upcoming UMD music discs or what?

  18. well, i do have a question for those with the mad psp knowledge. since the free sony psp image converter links are dead on the main page, are there any other intuitive(and free) image porting programs for the psp available?

It only works on those UMD music productions. I originally got the impression that you'd be able to listen to any of the music from the games itself...sadly, that's not the case.

  20. More random boredom :X I couldn't find any Match of the Millenium art.

A bunch of the individual character art and the cover.

  22. Thanks Mech. I'll have to mess around with those and come up with something. Heck, I should just rar up what I got and upload them somewhere :X

Oh! So, on the subject of PSP Backgrounds and stuff, I've decided to make a 12 month set for 3rd Strike. Here's the first one I've made so far

It's going to suck just choosing 12 characters.

  23. Damn, that's a good idea.

I'm sorta tempted to try this, now.

  24. Alrighty. Well, here is the rar file for the 12 month set and a list of the characters involved.

    January -- Akuma
    Febuary -- Chun-Li
    March -- Q
    April -- Remy
    May -- Urien
    June -- Necro
    July -- Makoto
    August -- Alex
    September -- Ken
    October -- Yun/Yang
    November -- Hugo
    December -- Ibuki

I tried to have variety but also avoid random tools going "OMFG WHERE IS AKUMA HEZ BAD ASS OMG" so I left out guys like Twelve, Sean and Oro. I even left out my Elena ;__; Anyways, have fun.

  25. OK, I normally use my sandisk all in one memory reader on 98 which works great as a transfer method. But now I am outta town and trying to use a direct USB connection on my friend's XP system and PSPvideo9 says PSP not found. It lets me specify it as drive E but there is no removable drive listed in my computer. What might be wrong and how can i get it recognized?
Last edited by 1CCOSA; 26 Jun 2005 at 02:21 AM.

  26. 1) make sure psp is in "usb mode" after you've connected the wire

2)dont worry about auto transfering them via psp9, just connect the pc to the psp and drag them into the "MP_ROOT\100MNV01" foler after they've been converted by said program.

3)anybody got a clue what the folder is called that stores images? i got no idea how to get pictures on my psp(yes; i am teh retarded and need help)
    XBL Gamertag = XMrWhitefolksX

  27. As far as I know it's just Xpsp\photo

  28. Yeah, it's that simple. Just create a "PHOTO" directory in the PSP folder and cram your images there.

Those SFIII backgrounds are hot. If anyone could ever find some Garou or Guilty Gear art, I'd be willing to give PSPersonalize a try.

  29. n/m, already figured out that a homebrew app makes the images a hell of alot nicer to look at than the pre-existing sony stuff.
    XBL Gamertag = XMrWhitefolksX

  30. OK, thanks Mr.whitefolks and those who responded. I wasn't putting it into USB mode, after that the PC detected it right away and pspvid9 copied the file to my system ultra fast. Now I have a new MST3K episode (To the Moon) to watch when my buddy drives us back home tonight. And going to see Batman Begins in an hour. Whoo.
