Thread: Everything you need for the PSP such as guides, programs, emulation, etc is all HERE!

  1. For those using Fast Loader, here is a site with a bunch of backgrounds for your ISO games. You can also use it as your 2.00 wallpapers if you want.

    Here are some wallpaper packs

  2. My brother was able to talk me into borrowing my PSP at the end of our weekend long Halo party, he had to have it after he played my emus. Good thing he is A) my brother and B) takes really good care of things. I would never borrow it to anyone else.

  3. I got accepted into the PSP Online Beta, problem is, you have to update to 2.0.

    Bye bye beta.

    haha IBTN.

No online beta would be worth forgoing the ability to play perfectly emulated NES games anywhere, any time.

  5. It's was for Socom... that made double sure.

BTW Virtua Tennis is the hawt hawtness.

    No. Ad-hoc only.

  8. That makes me sad, because I heard it was sposed to be infra...

Maybe the US release will, but I won't hold my breath.

Ditto here. This pisses me off as much as a lot of the 360 decisions. There is absolutely no reason you have to sign up through the PSP browser, other than SCEA is forcing people to lose their homebrew.

  10. And ability to pirate PSP games, to be fair.

  11. I'm interested in picking up a PSP, mainly for it's emu possibilities but I have a few questions first:

    1) I run a Mac, will I still be able to do all of this stuff?

    2) Do I need to buy a lot of extra equipment?

    3) I've heard that updating the firmware to 2.0 or whatever will stop me from doing homebrew stuff. So, a) if I pick up a PSP in a few weeks will they already have 2.0 on them? and b) what features will I not be able to take advantage of to keep from updating to 2.0?

    Thanks for the help.
I thought you were gay.... i guess not.

    1. Yes. If you're converting movies, you'll need a MAC program which can be found on the first post. Other than that, you should be able to drag and drop. The programs to transfer eboot files/folders should work. If not, there are some people who made packs ready to be used

    2. All you need is USB cable. Everything else is all downloaded. If you're talking about accessories, I suggest Hori Screen protector (Electronics Boutique MSRP $5) and Logitech PlayGear Pocket (EB, Best Buy, etc. MSRP $20). Those are the essentials

3a. Currently all PSPs on shelves are or should be 1.51 (letter "B" on box). There are some stores still out there that carry 1.50 (letter "A"). After looking at the European launch, theirs are 1.52 firmwares. I believe the letter "C" is 1.52's. To tell what versions they are see attached image. Future games will require updates inorder to play games. There is a Version Changer which tricks your PSP into thinking its the latest firmware so you bypass that update even though you're running a 1.50 firmware. The system will think it's a firmware v1.52 ,v1.0 ,v2.0 even if its a v1.5 or 1.0. Supposedly UMD movies will have updates on them as well. There is a new Version Changer that bypasses the games as well as movies/music. I would take a video of this but my camera is being repaired. But I hope you get what I'm saying. Hopefully, there will be a way to play other region UMD movies (bypass territorial lock).

3b. Only thing on 2.0 that people like is the official webbrowser, support for new video format H264 or whatever it is. Other than that, there isnt much to it. Here are the exact features in the 2.0 (http://www.us.playstation.com/psp.as...SoftwareUpdate). So do you want homebrew or official browser?

You can always find more info at http://www.mobiledeviant.com.

    Holy Shit
I just recieved my PSP in the mail & just now read ALL 20 pages!

I still haven't even turned my PSP on
now to check for dead pixels & to be sure it is the 1.50

BTW how do emulated games run on the PSP screen?
are they stretched out or are there black borders around the game screen??
...just at the sides or all around

oh crap I almost forgot to ask, the instruction manual says the battery charger needs over 2 hours to be fully charged
but can I just hook up the AC adaptor pul to the wall & just immediately play a game??

You dont even have to turn on PSP to check firmware. Just look on the box (see attached image above)

Emulated games can be viewed either at original size (black borders), stretched (borders on side) or full screen (stretched). Different emulators have different settings for the view.

Yes, you can play while its plugged in.

  16. That memory stick adapter idea is kind of old. They took an attachment designed for Sony Ericssons P800 Phone/PDA and used it for the PSP. All they did was modify the casing to make it look nicer.

I know there is another version of it by someone else. They were charging I think $25 for the adapter. There is a link for it as well. I'll post the link when I can. I'm at work using 56gay. You can do a search yourself on google and find it. This second version I'm talking about is vertical next to the memory stick door. The one you linked above goes on the UMD door.

Here's the deal: I haven't messed with my SNES for awhile and now my brother is borrowing my PSP. So I have the last version, I just helped a co-worker install SNES.2c TYL and loaded Super Metroid. Of course when sound is set above 11khz the game slows down.

When I set his emu to 333mhz CPU and set sound to 11, the whole first part of the game (fighting with Ridley on the space station before he steals the Metroid) is still super wonky. But without changing anything, after the game switches to Zebes, the game plays nice and fast. OK, as long as it plays like that the rest of the game, fine. Just seems weird it is so slow on the opening battle then goes to normal speed after going to the next stage in the game.

edit: OK, now the whole emulator crashed and I had to reset the system by pulling out his battery. Something that has only happened to me when i tried playing past the first level in Super Bonk. Weird. Anyone have trouble with their SNES emu crashing? Also, I noticed that when a light passes over Samus (like the little security "eye" thing which scans you when you first arrive on Zebes) the speed gets all jery, but then when she pulls out of the eye's light the speed is back to normal again. I assume there are some SNES effects the emu can't handle fully yet?

edit: I am playing again, got the morph ball, missles, fought some pirates and hasn't crashed this time. If it continues to work this way I will install the newest rev when i get my own PSP back.

  18. Dylan, go on ahead and update (if you havn't already) to the newest version, I can't remember if that's the newest one or not. I've been playing with the SNEStyc emu for a while and, to tell the truth, I'm still not too happy with it. I've got Front Mission, Super Metroid, Crono Trigger, Super Punch Out (Which I love) and Super Mario Bros. All Stars & World on it. Mario plays fine at 333mhz and so does Crono Trigger, 'cept for some slow downs on CT in some of the flashy moves. Front Mission runs very VERY slow. It runs around 30 fps, which for the game's pace, it runs decently, but cut scenes and the rest are shitty. I've got a German version of Metroid (German subtitles....Yea, I need to find another one, someone point me somewhere for one) and it was crap when fighting Ridley. I ran fine, but when I got hurt, my sprite would disappear, then come back after a while. Also, my shots would be invisible after now and then. I didn't care to play much more after that, but I will play it and see how it turns out for yall.

As for Nester, it's great. I love sneaking it into school everyday and play ShatterHand and Mike Tyson's Punch Out (just got to Mike yesterday, basterd keeps knocking me out in one punch) in English and my Typing class. That remind's me, I came up with a neat idea for EA to do with there next Fight Night game, but I doubt they would care much for it.

Actually my co-worker/friend (who happens to have this thread bookmarked) is playing Chrono trigger right now. I gave it a quick spin and on 333 it runs fast when on the world screen or in parts such as houses, but whenever I fought enemies in Guardia forest, the action and music both slowed down big time. It also is a bit jerky when in sections such as the Millenial Fair. Here's hoping newer revs fix the speed issues soon.

Ironically I just started Chrono Trigger again this morning on my SNES at home (when it's all said and done, you still can't beat the home system in some cases). It's been about 7 years since I last played it so I am long overdue.

I also never bothered to get the Chrono Trigger PSX re-release after I heard menus and some commands had a slight lag (and i was mighty tempted when i saw the slick Toriyama animated cinema scenes)

But yeah, NESTER runs buttery smooth for me. Also, for anyone here who likes 8-bit Konami shooters, download Crisis Force NOW. Amazing vertical Konami shooter that feels sort of like MUSHA and a little bit of Radiant Silvergun (your ship has three transformations and you get a bucnh of weapons right away) It also has excellent graphical effects for an 8-bit shooter like multiple parallax. Check out a review with pics here:

  21. DUDE! Don't Ebay it! Where did you get it from? If you got it from Wal-Mart or Target or a place like that, ask them to exchange it. I'm sure they'll do it. If you got it from a GameStop or EB Games, well, some of the people in there can be a bit iffy about it, but if you know the people in there (all the managers know me by face and name, so I get me some hook ups ^.^), you could get a version A. It never hurts to ask. Just DON'T Ebay it.

And as for Dylan, dude, I got to get me some good shot-em'-ups on mine for Nester. I loved (like hot coffee scandal love) Skyshark. I never could beat it but I know where I always got stuck at. Got any recommendations? I prefer them to be in english too.

You can purchase it at http://www.psp-hardware.com/ (when instock)

I personally only change the CPU speed to 333mhz and the frameskip. I leave the sound on default. If the game is running slow, I would adjust the frameskip to about 2 to 4. Nothing more.

Its not below the barcode. Its the top right corner under the 120V. There should be a letter. 'A' is 1.50. 'B' is 1.51. If there is no letter, thats a launch PSP and has 1.50. I saw a Euro box of it and it had a letter 'C'. I'm assuming 'C' are 1.52. You might have to look around. I know that when I went to Dave & Busters, they had PSPs as those gifts things and they were 'A'. So it all depends on how fast they sell out and how fast they get their stocks. Instead of ebaying it, why not return it?

You can always take the chance of buying used ones on eBay. There is a user at mobiledeviant.com where I moderate and he's selling his PSP. http://www.mobiledeviant.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=1593. Maybe you'll want to take a look at it.

As for NGCD, games are running at full speed.

You can find free roms by doing a google search or you can download torrents.

  23. well I actually bought the PSP from ebay
I asked if there was anything above the barcode & there wasn't anything
they must have upgraded their PSP then

the only good thing is that there are NO dead Pixels on my PSP
oh well it's still going back
I wonder how much trade-in credit EB gives?

If there was no letter under the 120v, than it was a 1.50 firmware. They must of updated the firmware. Better off selling it on eBay. If you're planning on buying another one off eBay, email the seller and ask them what version of the firmware. If they dont know, show them that image I posted a page back or so. You'll get about $100-150 trade-in from EB.

As for roms, I hope you know what the letters in the () are right? E for Europe, J for Japan, U for US. There are games that were never released but yet, in english thanks to translation hacks. Also, there are hacks out there for these roms. I usually get games with [!]. 99.9% of the time, they work flawlessly

  26. Bandit: I will try those settings, frameskip, ect. next time I get my PSP back (or next time my buddy is here at work, he just left)

TaterTot: Yeppers, I got Skyshark on my Nester as well and love it. The Genesis is also suppsed to have a very good port of Skyshark as well.

    My recommendations:

    Crisis Force, 'natch

    Gradius 1

    Gradius 2

    1943

Both Crisis Force and Gradius 2 are in full english FWIW but not like you need to know Japanese to play shooters, I import shmups all the time. And make sure to check out shmups.com if you have never been there. The "Xenocide files" section has endless shooter reviews indexed by every system ever made. Everything from arcade to NES, Dreamcast and Saturn.

PM me if you have trouble finding any of the roms. I have a great link you can use.
