    The problem with that is deciding what to use for each kanji. Sometimes, there isn't really an "official" romanji equivilent.

    What I wanted to do was one of two things: either have directories sorted by official study order, or have them sorted by stroke order. Then, if the names where in Japanese, you could find the kanji you needed by how it looks. My goal was to have a kanji look-up system for when you don't know what the kanji is, how to pronounce it, etc.

  3. now i can honestly say i havent been following the psp(or this thread) too much, but is there any information regarding emulation and it's progress on the psp? i was hearing alot of little blurbs here and there back in the day about how emulation guys were just waiting to try and port stuff over, but i havent heard any word if they had done so or not yet.

  6. I guess the challenge now is getting an ELF file to run on PSPs that have the 1.5 firmware upgrade.

    It'll still be another six months before we start seeing good emulators on the PSP though.

    Whoever was playing around with it had the original JAP PSP. Now they'll start to pick on the newer firmwares and see what happens. Atleast its a start and its one step closer to emulation.

    With patience, we'll be rewarded. But I'll post stuff up if I find anything new.

    The ten level official Japanese government study order. The order that you would study them in if you were going to take the kanji proficiency test.

    I prefer the idea of sorting by stroke count, though. Too bad we can't set up smart folders or something to sort each image depending on what you're going for.

    Well, the hits just keep on coming.

    Paradox has released ISO files of several PSP games.

    So far, the following titles are reported to have been ripped:

    Vampire_Chronicle_The_Chaos_Tower_JAP_PSP-PARADOX [407.4MB in 29 files].
    Wipeout_Pure_USA_PSP-PARADOX [132.9MB in 10 files].
    Ridge_Racers_JAP_PSP-PARADOX [491.4MB in 35 files].

    Looks like this, and the other items that have been coming out lately are sparking quite alot of interest in the homebrew code scene.

    Also, it should be said that the UMD uses a standard iso9669 format on the disc itself, so the ISO can be burnt and read on a regular cd or dvd.

    The games are NOT playable in this format however. That will probablly still take time to figure out.

    Jeez, talk about coming late to the party.

    It's interesting that the UMD was cracked so quickly. I wonder if Sony is capable of producing future UMDs that will be harder to crack, and if the crack itself will help hackers develop emulators for the PSP at a faster pace.

    Regardless, we're getting closer to playing Gunstar Heroes and Chrono Trigger on that sexy screen.

    Eh, it's not quite that simple. All PSP UMD executables need to be signed with Sony's key. The only reason the elf converter was released was because Japanese 1.0 PSPs don't check for the key when running off the memory card. I can't begin to imagine why; that's a pretty damn stupid oversight. Anyway, all of the newer firmware checks, and the key isn't exactly going to be found easily. I'd put my money on it never leaving Sony, much like the requirements for Xbox executables.

    There are always exploits, though.

  27. I doubt anyone is going to update but Sony releases firmware 1.51. Its pretty much the same as the Japanese version.

    All you have to do to update your firmware is:
    1) Go to your home screen select "Settings" and then select "Network Update"

    2) Select your Wireless connection

    3) It will prompt you to insert a Memory Stick with at least 14 MB of space free. Once you inserted the MS (or you already have it in), press X button and downloading process will begin. I downloaded the update in a matter of seconds. (download speed varies with different connections.)

    4) DOWNLOAD COMPLETE, it will asks you to press X button to instal the newly downloaded firmware update or press O button to instal later. YOU MUST HAVE YOUR PSP CONNECTED TO THE AC ADAPTER IN ORDER TO CONTINUE WITH THE UPDATE.

    5) It will asks for a confirmation. Pressing ">" on the D-Pad will initiate the instalation, pressing O will cancel the process.

    NOTE: If you so choose to perform the update at a later time, the downloaded update file can be found under the "Game" category on your home menu.

    For those without WIFI, download this file and transfer it to your memory stick

  28. Anyone try the classic emulated SNES, NGPC stuff yet? I saw Reno running some stuff on his PSP last week in LA. SNK vs. Capcom: MotM and Super Mario World to be exact. Both looked great, but ran pretty slow on the PSP. At least there's actual proof now that emulation is not only possible, but is bound to get even better from this point on.

    For the moment...that's why I was curious if anyone with a U.S. unit has bothered to try it. There's a possiblity that it does (or did at one point...I doubt SCEA's recent security update fix is a mere coincidence).
