Thread: Set up my PC as an access point for the xbox

  1. Set up my PC as an access point for the xbox

Well the router is upstairs and cat 5 doesn't reach to the basement, so I was thinking if I moved my PC downstairs could I set it up as an access point for the Xbox and just connect the cat-five to the port on my PC to the Xboxs port, while using a wireless adapter for my PC. Is there any kind of software or any guides on setting this up that anyone can point me too? And has anyone else here done this?

  2. Heh, I was literally just thinking the same thing a few minutes ago.

I am sure you can get that set up with your pc using the Wireless Network Wizard, input the SSID and WPA/WPE information. But, you still need to purchase the Xbox Wireless Adapter IIRC>

  3. Hrm but I'm saying I'd could connect it to my computer, and perhaps set my computer up like a second router, and hardwire the xbox to my computer via cat-five, removing the need to actually have the wireless adapter which is rediculously overpriced.

  4. I recommend moving in with some people, getting stuff mixed up, and then eventually have everyone move out. That's how I went from owning no cable to have 100+ feet of CAT5 and some female-female adapters.

Not exactly a simple solution but it does work.

  5. do you mean windows ICS connection?

If you were going through all that trouble, you might as well just get a wireless adapter made for a console (note-the MS one isn't the only one that will work) and use it and skip routing through the PC.

Turn your PC into a Linux router.
