Thread: The Warriors

  1. Yeah, that review made the game a must-rent for me, at least.

I'm just suprised it even came out. I was certain at one point that it was going to be vaporware.

  2. I hope this is good. Aside from the fact that the Warriors is one of those movies that I'll always stop to watch when it's on TV, that movie inspired almost every videogame from the 80s, so it needs to be good. Think about it - leather vested tough guys traversing a nighttime urban hellscape, beating up themed gangs and using their own baseball bats against them? That's every arcade game made between 1987 & 1990.

I had no idea they were doing a remake of the movie - that's awesome, but I have no idea how you could update it. There were (almost) no guns in it, which would be tough to leave out of a modern day version. I'd also be wondering why they don't just get a cab back to Coney or call the rest of the gang on the celly...but I guess that's another thread.

  3. lol back in the day if a guy had a gun in a beat-em-up he was the BOSS. not that he was particularly tough or anything....it's just that he could KILL you if he wanted.

i can't help but think of river city randsom when i hear talk of this game. it's the most "warriors" like beat-em-up i can remember.

ANOTHER fucking remake of a classic movie? Hollywood sucks and is completely bereft of any shread of originality.

hm....i've been thinking about that recently and it seems to have a lot to do with exposure. like...people who make movies don't have much access to something that'd be considered original or new.

It's really society's fault for eating every remake up like it's brand new.

Actually, every time I watch this movie I think how well it's aged and how ahead of its time it was, and, things I brought up aside, how great a remake this could make if put into modern gangsta culture instead of 70s hair metal/funk. It inspired so many rappers - how many hip hop songs have samples from this movie like "let's get down to it boppers," or are generally inspired by it like NWA's 100 Miles & Runnin'? They could do a really good remake of this movie.

They'll have a hard tiime coming up with a more badass group than the 1000 kung fu brothas of the original Riffs, though.

  8. Not a bad game. Better than I thought it would be. Better than beat down (not hard to do), While the engine isn't as good as urban reign, the story, minigames and free-roaming aspect of it make it fun. Edges out urban reign just a bit. The only problem I see with it is the (beat em up)engine. It's a slight improvement over state of emergency. You know that "lock on" feeling you get when playing final fight? It isn't in this game. The gang commands actually have a purpose and strategy and aren't just thrown in like the afterthought they were in Beat Down. There are also some camera issues.

I'd give it 8/10. If you're a warriors fan you'll love it. If you're a beat em up fan, you're getting a better game in this than you did in beat down and urban reign. If you're anybody else, rent it first or pick it up used.
You don't have to be smart; you don't have to know the facts, you just have to be confident.

  9. I don't know shit about this game, but if you can run the streets as The Orphans, I have to rent this.

  10. I played this last night for about 20 minutes at a kiosk (yea, I was one of THOSE guys). They did a really good job with this game. The graphics weren't as bad as I feared. The character animations looked really nice for a Rockstar game. There is just something inherently fun about kicking a gang members ass, picking up his weapon and beating down the rest of his gang with it. Commanding your fellow gang members was pretty easy, and a nice function. AI seemed pretty decent.

Co-op was really smooth. This is what makes the game for me and I will definitely get it after a few price drops.
