Thread: SSX 4

  1. There are still returning characters, but on top of that you could make your own.

The SSX series may be incredible (SSX3 in particular,) but character design is definitely has never been its stong point. Yuck.

Yeah I figured that but like I said, it seems like the personality of some of the characters is slowly draining out but I understand somewhat if they take a backseat to their overall surroundings.

    Nah, I disagree.

Eddie, Marisol, Elise, Mac, Zoe, Kaori and Psymon all had very cool and radical designs that fit their personality quite well.

I think Ep just doesn't like the characters. I think it's a valid complaint, but none of the characters really bothered me (maybe Kaori though).

I popped in SSX3 last night, it's awesome still. Do a free run, turn of the music and start at the top of Peak 3. Awesome.

It'd be great if the characters would really return though, and not be just skins of default characters. Knocking down Macy Gray [Seeiyah] and hearing her go "Ouuuuuu, that don't feel right" was hilarious.

    Return the funk.

  6. I'd been interested in trying out the SSX series for a while, but every time the price dropped a new game came out and I didn't want to get something old. Well I finally got a copy of SSX3 from a co-worker. I expected to love it, as the last snowboarder I played was the original 1080.

Holy geeze does SSX3 suck. 1080 kicks the ever-loving shit out of it as far as being a good racing game. SSX3 has zero track design and zero required technique. There's nothing fun about the trick system that's borrowed from Tony Hawk (the same system that's used in every damned extreme sports game since THPS).

SSX4 will, I assume, be the same. Too bad 1080 Avalanche looks like such trash as I'd like to play a decent snowboarding game (and I don't own a N64). Maybe Amped is a decent alternative?

Man, this just triggered a bare minimum of 4 pages of flaming.

  8. I'm afraid i feel the same way mark ryan does. I must go die now.
Seriously though, I've tried to get into the SSX series. My brother and niece LOVE the games, but I just never liked it. In fact, 1080 was about the only snowboarding game I did like.

The Amped series is on the other side of snowboarding games from the SSX series. It's much less arcadey, you'd probably like it more.

I think Avalanche got decent reviews, I've been meaning to try it (there was a lot I didn't like about 1080 but I don't think many of those issues were addressed. I should just play it and find out though).

  10. Hey, you don't like it. No biggie. Go about your business elsewhere.
