You do realize lockups, hangs, crashes etc. etc. are the worst kinds of bugs right?
A game that got 10 out of 10 from numerous sources (KOTOR) locked up on me more than Morrowind GOTY ever did, and I played Morrowind for about 30~40 hours more than KOTOR. And I love me some KOTOR. Hell, I've had MGS2 lock up on me, Halo 2, Streets of Rage II even. It's not the end of the world for me when it happens.

  2. "I never had any problems with bugs in Morrowind, other than the occasional lockup."

See, this is why gaming is getting sucky

It's still better than all the shit that happened with Ultima VII.

  4. You mean IX?

  5. No, I mean VII. IX's bugs were in a class all their own.

    Not relevant to the conversation.

It is the end of the world. Literally. The diegetic world created by the game-makers has dissapeared completely and totally. Nothing will take you out of the game more. It is the complete and total end all of whatever world you are talking about. This is the highest priority bug for developers the world over, on any software, and people who don't care about a game crashing on them, but care about some weird esoteric nonsense like a little annoying glitch that means nothing have their priorities completely messed up.

I completely and totally disagree and I can't even begin to bring myself to start to relate to where you are coming from.

    That said, no hard feelings.

  7. Look, I'm not saying I like lockups. I'm saying that there are worse bugs. If a game locks up, I lose any progress since my last save, and, yes, I'm taken out of the world the game submerses me in. But that beats having the game corrupt or delete your game save entirely, doesn't it? Or how about a glitch that prevents you from being able to progress in the story because a critical event can't be triggered? Both those scenarios mean starting from either a previous game save (assuming (a) the game supported multiple game saves, and (b) you made use of that feature) or starting over entirely. Is that not much worse than a lock up? For me, losing hours (if not dozens of hours) of progress is much worse than losing the time it takes me to restart the console and whatever progress I made since the last save.

edit: And no hard feelings on this side either.

It's a long story, and yes a corrupted file is on the same level of bad (assuming it isn't a security concern, but then you are just adding problems), but crashes and hangs are the worst.

I never had problems with Ultima IX. Guess I was one of the lucky ones. The game was great btw, and the game world was a lot like World of Warcraft had WoW come out in 1999. You could put the two games side by side and see how far things have come.

Provided you could get U9 to work, that is.

  10. *whispers quietly*

I agree. Could have been one of the best games ever
