Thread: So Where's the PSP Beef?

More fully, it took iPod a few years before it became the phenomenom (sic?) it is now. This holiday season was the first one it really blew up. The system trickled out and actually received its fair share of mediocre reviews at launch.

It was supposed to sell a million in its first month in North America. That was Sony's prediction. It has maybe sold only about 300k total.

But to be fair ... it wasn't released during the holiday season. So, I think Sony was just pumping up thier stock (At least their comments aren't as outlandish as MS saying they want to sell a billion 360's).

It will have it's time to shine this holiday season. The only problem is that it will be competing against a similarly priced (and more powerful gaming platform) 360 and a much cheaper DS.

  2. DS sells cuz you got little kiddies having an orgy going "OHHHHHhhh mommy mommy, Pokemon Emerald", Yes, thats what I kept hearing at the Nintendo World Grand Opening. Sadly enough, from adults too. Pathetic.

I dont hear anything exciting for the DS either. I'm interested in Coded Arms for the PSP. After looking at those videos, that shit is hot. All this nex-gen hype for the PS3, Xbox360 and Nintendo Revo, pretty much shadows over anything for the PSP, GBA, DS.

Whats the point of even talking about DS? Nintendo is going to kill their own GB by releasing another within a year. O wait, they did that with the GBA. Nintendo releases more GB systems then I do going on dates/have a girlfriend. And with the graphics of the PSP, I wouldnt be surprised if Nintendo is huddling up making a new GB to compete with the PSP. The original GBA was selling great and stupid Nintendo had to release the GBA SP just because TritonLabs released the internal light mod and Nintendo wanted in on the money.

The NPD is saying it sold ~620,000 in March and 351,000 in April. There are numerous reports of both all over the web (I got the April NPD numbers from a GA link, I posted it once already in response to these same comments you made earlier). Unless you can produce some sites that back up what you say Im calling BS.

Shit, I misread the April report as being total units for the year. I assumed it had only sold 350k total.

Pretty much screws up all my theories. PSP = runaway success.

  5. 300K sold in the first month is BS. There were news report saying it sold over 500K. I'll see if I can find some old news reports.

  6. For games, if I could afford them, I'd buy MVP Baseball, Hot Shots Golf, Burnout: Legends, GTA, NBA Ballers, Madden 06, and Death Jr. We haven't even seen what's on the show floor yet (at least I haven't).

  7. When are they going to announce a PSP Smackdown and a PSP Tekken?

    That's what I want.

  8. You know, even though I have both portables and as of right now I'm not getting a lot of play out of them, I am still very satisfied with both. My PSP 1gig Pro Duo stick JUST came in today, so I know the PSP will get a much needed boost where it counts. Lumines is one of my favorite games this gen, and I have yet to grow bored of it.

My DS is still almost brand new, but I think it's still a great little system. I only have Wario Ware (which I think rocks) but I know like 50 games are going to come out within its lifetime that will make me fork out the dough. Hell, Kirby DS and Animal Crossing alone are worth a purchase for me, and the prospect of an online Pokemon and Mario Kart before the end of the year makes me very excited.

LucasArts will finally unleash its first handheld game this fall. While other companies have released handheld Star Wars games in the past, Star Wars Battlefront II for PSP is the first to actually be published by LucasArts.

Developed by Savage Entertainment, Star Wars Battlefront II for PSP is similar to its recently announced console counterpart (see below) with space combat, playable Jedi, and Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith content, yet it still boasts several distinct features meant to embrace the “on-the-go” nature of a handheld system. The game includes several unique mini-campaigns as opposed to the much longer campaign seen on consoles. Players can join the Rebellion as a smuggler, work for themselves as a mercenary for hire, or use their Imperial sniping skills to rid the galaxy of pesky species like Jawas, Ewoks and Gungans. Wi-Fi compatibility permits up to four players to join in at once, either cooperatively or competitively, and they can also partake in classic Instant Action mode to fight their favorite Star Wars battles any way they want to.
    Eat a cock.

EDIT: Actually, Sony should cut this bullshit with the 4 player adhoc crap. Give people online lobbies and the like on all of these games so I can justify paying 40 dollars a game.

Is Twisted Metal really popular online? It's the only PSP game out right now that I know of that uses infrastructure mode.

"Chuy, you're going to have a magical life. Because no matter where you go, it's always going to be better than Tucson."

  10. I thought Devil May Cry was going to be available/playable at E3..

There's nothing particularly exciting about the PSP at this time, aside from the 1.00 homebrew scene. TGS had better make up for this.
