IBTN. America has no sense of architectural style anymore, which is weird because you would think cities would want interesting buldings that make their skyline unique. NO! BIG RECTANGLES!

Ever read that Weiss-Hickman (authors of Dragonlance) series called Death Gate Cycle? This is similar. The "magic users" (technology), decide they are too good for the world and build a city in the sky.

I always imagined as a kid that's how society would evolve. In centuries past, people would move horizontally to get away from others who were not of the same religion, race, class. Once the world becomes too crowded, the only other option is to move vertically. Literally.

Of course, the potential perils of having a city of people "break away" from the world, could be a bit mind-boggling. These types of people would probably be very open minded about science and technology. They could theoretically usher in a new type of human race (man meets machine).
