Thread: How long will you live?

If you continue maintaining healthy habits, you'll want to plan for a maximum life expectancy of 102 years or more.

Your "ideal" weight for maximum longevity is: 116 lbs.

The three biggest positive factors that you have going for you are:
    1. Age
    2. Gender
    3. Age of parents

That was the MSN one. I'll try the BBC one next.

EDIT - The BBC one says: Your life expectancy is 92.2 years

Read on to find out about risk factors - and how small changes can make a big difference in your overall health! Remember, this is not an exact diagnostic tool and does not predict exact life expectancy.

Those questions on both tests are kinda vague. They should really have an "I don't know" response, or give more than 2-3 options for answers.

  3. I don't have enough information to fill out either of them.
Most life expectancy predictions are misleading, though, because they give you an average expectancy that factors in things like accidental death. Most people just want to know how long it will be before they die of natural causes.
As a matter of fact, most of the actuary data is misused, since it is based on how old the people who are dying now are, and not how long someone who is born today will live.

New charts come out regularly which factor the changes in life expectancy over time. Its kinda hard to make a prediction on what the life expectancy will be in 2090 for some kid born today.

85 - 91. Heh. My great grandma just died at the age of 93. My entire family has lived a long time, but the men die earlier, true to statistics.

    I've known 3 of my great-grandmothers.

According to that BBC calculator, I'm overweight by 3 pounds.

The biggest strike against me according to the MSN calc was gender.

It's nice to know that I probably haven't lived a quarter of my life yet.
It's sad to know that I'll spend 1/100th of it playing World of Warcraft.

  6. I got bored and tried the MSN one. This is what I got:

Your "ideal" weight for maximum longevity is: 155 lbs. (I'm only 126 lbs right now)

The three biggest positive factors that you have going for you are:
    1. Age of grandparents
    2. Diet
    3. Personality type

The two biggest negative factors that you have going for you are:
    1. Gender
    2. Weight

    BBC was 89.4 years.

    I found quite a few questions really stupid;
"Did either of your parents die before the age of 75?"
Wtf, that applies to less than half the population...

  8. MSN: your current life expectancy is 81 years

The three biggest positive factors that you have going for you are:
    3. Drinking

BBC: Your life expectancy is 85.8 years

  9. 72-82 years

  10. 70 according to MSN. Biggest negative factors were family health (a grandmother who had cardiovascular disease, of course she was 84 when she died and smoked two packs a day her entire life, and my grandfather died of cancer and had like 4 heart attacks, but he was severely overweight and died when he was 85. I don't think either should be held against me), driving under the influence (I was barely over the legal limit at .08, and I never drive after drinking anymore), and gender. BBC said I would live to 87.8.

Both said I should lose weight, which is insane. MSN actually said I need to lose 25 lbs. I used to weigh 179, and I looked like a skeleton. BMI is crap when they're just guessing based on your height.
