Thread: Mario 128 on Revolution...

  1. Your computer is only as good as the software you are running. Just because you have a 64 bit computer that is running Windows XP, doesn't mean it is a 64 bit machine.

With the advent of machines like the Jaguar and the Saturn (making a mockery of bits) then the PS and the DC came along (it became more about pushing poly's) ... the "bit" comparisons is sort of a dead topic.

Yeah, I know, there still a draw to Mario franchise, but will be enough to actually a warrant a purchase of the console?
Like he said in the article, it all comes down to what they do with their controller. That'll be the new hook for the game. If they can come up with a new and worthwhile way to interact with what's happening onscreen, then it'll have a draw.

OMG! What a revelation!!11 The most innovative game from ANY year wouldn't be innovative by standards of a decade later. Go home.

Mario 64 WAS innovative, and still IS the best 3D platformer.

I have faith EAD will make a killer Mario game for revolution. Sunshine had the best controls the genre has ever seen, plus a few flashes of brilliance mixed in with a few problems.

Sad thing no one else has been able to top it. You missed the point. Mixing genres and stuff like that are seen as innovative titles today.

Mario 64 was a plain platformer that by todays standard would be a huge failure. Mario 64 was the peak of the Platformer genre. Not the FPS/Platformer genre(R&C or Jak) or the stealth/Platformer genre(Sly Cooper)

Nintendo has put themselves in a hole. SM64 was so huge that a sequel has to be more than a few improvments. I believe Mario is held to a higher standard than most( if not all) successful franchises out there and people expect something more than just a damn update like Jak and Ratchet do.

  6. I don't see what the big problem everyone had with Sunshine. I'll agree that it didn't have that mystical element that just hooks you. It controlled perfectly. The camera was correct more often than cumbersome, especially for the genre. The special stages, while frustrating to no end, took a great level of precision and I have a degree of respect for them now, in hindsight.

But honestly what can be done with the genre now? I believe that the only boundary left is to take the series back to 2D and give it eye-bleeding hi-res.

    nothing at this time

  7. If this game doesn't have lava and castles I'm going to be upset. Sunshine was fine because it still controlled like a Mario (which still controls 10x better than any other platformers strive for), but I want to go back to those worlds I remember in 2D.

Remember the King Bo-Bomb mountain? That was so amazing... just flying around for hours trying to see how far you could reach... ahh what a great game.

I didn't realize this was coming out for the DS! Wow, that game looks pretty decent. The warping of the pipes and a couple of other new features to the series has me excited about it almost as much as the new graphics.
