The more you play online, the better you get at avoiding the close range intagibs.
I actually prefer to use the main guns and only use the shotty or melee when I really have no other choice. There was some debate on it last night, but I think, and it even says so in the damn guide, that the Locust rifle is freaking deadly. You have to be accurate, but if you are in a one on one, and the other guy is using the chainsaw gun and you have the Locust rifle, you will almost always win. Its only downfall is no chainsaw, so it requires to hits to take someone down.

Late to the Party and all that, but...
This game is a thrill, but I'm having more fun with F.E.A.R. (I know, PC conversion FTL) and Marvel Alliance.
I haven't played online or mulitplayer yet and I'm only up to the first Corpser battle (which would be a lot more exciting if the damned thing MOVED once in a while. It's like fighting a mountain that exposes itself every so often. Yawn).
+ Graphics, duh... though Call of Duty 3 is sharper and smoother
+ Duck and cover gameplay similar to kill.switch (which I loved)
+ Running technique is simple but innovative and fun
+ Cole Train is the best grunt in the history of videogames (Ralf Jones comes next)
+ Thrilling action movie music is perfect
+ The Kryll. I could play an entire game of "stay out of the dark". Very intense.
- Compared to Halo 1 & 2, nowhere near as epic or engaging, imo
- Boring art design. Grunts/enemies look like Liefeld drawings. Junker and most landscapes look really cool, though.
- Too many intercut cinemas. Took me out of the game while they were on.
- Animation spotty in some cases, especially cinemas
- No jump button. Would've made hopping over obstacles much easier
- Why can't I get get rid of my damned pistol? Am I forced to keep that crap, limiting my weapons-carrying options?
- Junker and mine cart levels were boring, imo (moreso mine cart)
- Corpser battle a little underwhelming
+/- Chainsaw bayonet
+/- Left/right path options, though the outcome doesn't change either way
Overall, a solid game that strengthens the 360's library, but has lots of room for improvement.
It's great that all of a sudden, after months of not playing 360, there's a good chunk of games that will last me into Jan-Feb, at least.
I think a jump button would have made the game worse
You can carry 1 small arm, 2 large arms, and 1 grenade type. I think it makes fine sense, especially since your acquired weapons are visible on your character.- Why can't I get get rid of my damned pistol? Am I forced to keep that crap, limiting my weapons-carrying options?
I'm a fan of limiting weapons like that, if you didn't have to pick and choose your weapons, everyone would just be rushing to pick up everything they could in multi. It would ruin the strategy completely if you could have every range of weapon for every situation at once.
I'll agree it's not as epic as halo, but I'm having more fun playing this, than I did Halo (I like halo's story though)
Art Design: To each his own, I like the gritty jams, but I hate Marcus for being the sterotypical man's man set to redeem himself.
The Jump button would break the game, period.
The pistol can be switched for a magnum, or if there is another pistol type weapon.
I didn't like the mine or junker part either
Branching paths, did nothing for story, but some paths are harder than others.
I think thats where it started for me too. Theres no way i could play with "normal" aim and in halo i have to use the legacy control scheme.
If Cole was to jump i expect the ground to crack under him. I think its safe to assume these guys cant jump around all the time. And why would you want to drop the boltok pistol? Its got 2x zoom and its a 1 hit kill with a headshot.

Chux-
There's more than one type of pistol? Magnums? Wow, okay I'm down with that. So far, in every instance I tried to exchange it for another weapon, the option was whitewashed. I thought I was stuck with this POS for the entirety of the game.
How would having a jump button break the game?
Personally though i think the blast radius for the hammer is too strong in mutli.
