Thread: SSX On Tour

  1. I forgot to mention that the sense of speed in this is waaaaaaaaay above any of the other games. When you get up to speed you are absolutly FLYING down the mountain. Plus they stopped by Criterions office and ganked the blur effect from them so it seems even faster. And the partical effects are really great the fire works and especially the falling snow look awesome.

Ammadeau: 1) Doesn't seem as bad and 2) the Slopestyle courses a pretty long, in one I did I came across a half pipe but there was more than enough areas to trick in that I didn't have to stay in it long. The half pipe events were always a waste of time in SSX, way too easy to cheat so it was pointless.

And I thought Kaori always sucked so anything they do to her doesn't matter. I do find it weird how the completely de-emphasized the characters they've built up over 3 games and basically replaced them with a crummy character builder.

  2. I od like that this seems to retail for $39.99...instead of $49. Well, except for the PSP version...speaking of which...anyone try it yet? Is it chock full of EA-on-the-PSP-loading-goodness?

  3. XBox Version > all other versions is my guess.

Maybe it's the horrible create-a-boarder system that you're forced to use when playing the tour mode.

Maybe it's the unintuitive mountain setup. Yeah, it's a streaming mountain, but it hardly feels like it, since you keep getting thrown back to a stage select screen. SSX3 handled it much better, IMO.

Maybe it's the slightly altered control scheme (I can no longer use the left analog stick to prewind. It's a minor issue, but completely screws me up, since each previous game allowed it. Also, WTF @ tricking with the right stick).

Maybe it's the fact that the camera feels the need to go to a ridiculously unhelpful angle whenever you decide to do a MONSTER trick.

Maybe it's the stupid tourists polluting half the courses while you race.

Maybe it's the disappointing soundtrack (Hey, i liked the drum & bass).

Maybe it's the shitty framerate in the PS2 version.

On the plus side, the game's front-end is amazing.

yipe. boo boo and more boo. glad i didnt open this one yet...

    anyone play the PSP rev?

  5. I don't think the PSP version has much in common with the console versions. Courses are from previous games, stage-based progression (a la SSX and Tricky,) etc. And it costs $10 more. GG EA.

  6. There is not a single thing about SSX4 that I like. The music is horrible, the control switch makes me sad, I want another flowing mountain, and well...

Chux man, how's the right analog for tricks? It doesn't sound that much fun at all. I was a huge fan of the NBA Street franchise and was 'sort-of' looking forward to V3 until they mentionned that trick stick crap and turned me completely off. Is it mandatory to do moves or can we just go back to the normal button scheme?

These impressions are most disappointing, SSX3 was so rad.

  8. I personally think it kicks SSX3 in the balls.

"All creatures will DIE, and all things will be BROKEN: That is the law of the SAMURAI."

I was the same way for V3, til they did that, it's the same thing here.

  10. Someone thought that the monster tricks needed to be easier to pull off, so they put it to the right analog stick. Push up and one goes (until you let go), right is another one, left, down. There are some that you push righ and then roll down too. That might be for the level 2 uber tricks, i'm not sure. While they made doing the trick easier this way (it was hard holding 3 buttons before?) the action slows down and the camera slowly rotates around you making it about 20 times harder to land because you have no idea what's in front of you until you let go and the camera spins back behind you. Looks cool, but totally negates the "make it easier to do" idea.
