Actually it wasn't a stop-gap measure at all. It was entirely meant to sell alongside the Saturn as a low priced alternative. Given the amount of Genesis units out there, the Saturn's high price, and the fact that the 16-bit market had at least a year of life left in it, it was a pretty good idea. SOJ fucked everything up by discontinuing everything to concentrate on the Saturn. They lost a shitload of revenue by giving the 16-bit market to Nintendo, and pissed off most of their fan base by killing the two add-ons.

Behold! The face of evil and dark overlord who basically killed Sega.

    Eh?

    1. The Jaguar and 3DO are not add-ons.
    2. Tempest 2000 > 32X library

  4. How so? Tempest 2000 is available on both the Saturn and PSX, and is better on both. The PSX version has better graphic effects, and the Saturn version has better control and a redbook soundtrack.

At least I can only play Kolibri, Knuckles Chaotix, Shadow Squadron, and Tempo on a 32X.

Why would you want to play any of those? I may be second only to you in my support of the Genesis on these boards, but the 32X has zero redeeming qualities.

I never said they were although I suppose I shouldn't have directly replied to an add-on statement. My point was that as weak as the 32X was, it still had better games than its more expensive new competition.

  7. I didn't know that Sega discontinued their 16-bit stuff to focus on the Saturn, what a horrid move.

Wasn't that the birth of Majesco? They started providing cheaper systems and games? First I heard of them anyway.

Actually, it is debatable whether Tempest X is better than Tempest 2000. It is certainly a matter of preference. I know Tempest 2000 is an easter egg in Tempest X (PS1 version), but I can't say how accurate the port is compared to the Jaguar version.

If we are to compare 32X to Jaguar, I would put up Battlesphere (admitted never played but generally regarded as one of the best games on the system), Tempest 2000, Defender 2000, Protector SE, Super Burnout and Iron Soldier.
