Thread: The 32X Love In Thread!

I'm glad I did too because it was my first experience with a great 3-d home racer, V.R. And also I didn't even know what DOOM was until I bought the 32X version, and it was awesome for me, having never played the pc or any version before. I then bought Cosmic Carnage...well, atleast the zooming effect was cool...eh? lol
I had Doom on PC, and it was the game I got with my 32x as a gift... it was fun and cool, but the game wasn't even finished. You couldn't ever find the BFG, the only way to use it was to cheat, and the "wraparound" of levels (Ie if you started at 15, and then beat it, you'd go back to 1) didn't work since once you beat the last level, it went to a fucking DOS PROMPT. Strange, strange game. Only reason I got it was I asked for a 32x, but no games, so my mom had to ask the store employee what games were good. I don't mind though, it was still fun.

  2. If I recall, the 32X was originally planned by Sega of Japan to be a stand-alone console. SOA apparently had a big problem with this (the Saturn was looming) and suggested it become an add-on at most.

I read through the Ultimate History of Video Games again and I'm surprised at how STUPID Sega of Japan was. SOA did a lot to curb their idiocy, but in the end, SOJ won out.

  4. Random 32X tidbit: It is possible to write code for it that will actually burn it out, as in literally making it emit smoke (got this from an ex-SOA programmer that I work with). Still, I like me some space harrier 32X and Chaotix was a curiosity worth seeing...Besides, it looks cool on top of a genesis 2.

I had a launch Genesis with a launch Sega CD... so when I added a 32x I had the tallest system in the world... for shits and giggles I once added a Game Genie, Sonic and Knuckles, and attached Sonic 2.

What's even more amazing is that SOA was the one trying to stop the 32X. Given that they have proven to be one of the stupidest companies in gaming history...

    I, too, have done this.

    It's a sight to behold.

It was actually the only game (AFAIK) that was released in a dual pack. Two discs, one for Sega CD, one for 32x. I never got to play it.
