Thread: I am done with my crappy (temp) job

  1. data entry!

I returned home from college and started posting my resume. I got a call from a temp agency a week later and they said theyd put me on a temp work while they look for better jobs and see how I work.

Two and a half months later, they say the jobs all done and they dont have anything for me. I havent found another job yet.

I (was) young and naive and trusting. DO NOT TRUST TEMP AGENCIES, people.

  2. Hey, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

There are worse jobs out there, especially coming from a temp agency, than data entry in an office building (unless of course you were in some sort of concentration camp slaving away at the 10-key). They dont call them 'temp' for nothing, man.

Good luck with the job hunt.

  3. Want any of these jobs? I can refer you (and get a nice referral bonus)

i tried an agency once. after i found a job before them i vowed to never use one again.

  5. I was a temp for 3 months once. It wasn't that bad, actually. If you didn't already have an assignment, you just go into the office (which was easily Metro-accessable, I lived in the DC area) and they called around to local establishments to see if anyone needs any "free" help for the day. I was free of charge the first day, but if they wanted to keep me, they had to pay up (like more than double what I was making per hour). When they find you a job, they write the address on your timecard and send you on your way. Half the time, companies call in requesting help for a project. Yeah, it was absolute bottom-of-the-barrel office work (data entry, filing, straightening up offices, answering phones, faxes/copies, etc.), but it kept me busy most of the time. Plus, my temp agency was really flexible. If you didn't want to do a certain kind of job (like receptionist or data entry), that's fine, you wouldn't get them. If you didn't like your current assignment, fine, you don't have to go back there. I demanded that all my assignments be Metro-accessable so I wouldn't have to drive. I was full-time, but if I wanted to do it part-time, no problem.

Randstad North America. That's the place I worked for. Dunno if they have HQs in other places, but if you're looking to make some easy quick cash, based on my own experience, I reccomend them. There are also agencies out there that cater to skill specialties, like IT, web programming, sales & marketing, etc.

Im not about to say I was right or I know everything. This is the way it goes. You make mistakes and move on. I was looking for jobs in the meantime but didnt find any. I cant really complain, when I came home I had about $150 to my name so I really did need money and quick cash is quick cash. I mostly believed at the start that they would help me out, but after a couple weeks I knew that wasnt the case and I wanted to quit but my girlfriend convinced me to stay on because... a job's a job. She has a point.

2.5 is nothing. You have to think longterm if this is your career.
