Fable:The Lost Chapters

The developers and magazines were talking about the game being Morrowind + KOTOR + Zelda, what we got was a dumbed-down Zelda with a bad (worse) story. The game media was hyping the game up as the be-all end-all up to a week before it came out (remember that ridiculous 8 part or whatever preview on IGN). I dont think anyone can seriously detach themselves from all that hype and end up being happy with it. The game media let us down with this one, the last time I remember them getting something so wrong was Trespasser (though Fable is much better than Trespasser).

Im all for going in with reasonable expectations but there's a limit.

i went in like this: it's an xbox game. that was it. i honestly dont see how the rest of you cant, espcially when a game gets this much hype.

and secondly, those of you that felt dissapointed should be used to it by now(because if you beleived the hype for this, you MUST have boughten into hype for other games as well)...let alone there have been far worse games than fable to come out of the vidoegame industry.

i guess i'm just sick of the people that bash this based on the fact that it wasnt what molyneux(sp?) promised...as if every other developer out there brings every single thing they said about their title to it's retail outing.

so; to wrap this up...fuck it, i'll pick it up. gives me more to do within that world(more houses to "renovate" of people, and more money to make). if you dont want it,that's fine. but dont act as if you're some naive schoolgirl that put all of your trust into this(molyneux), only to be raped later in an alley without the promise of candy(missing game content); it makes the rest of us(gamers) look like complete hypocritical asses.

actually its when i see this level of hype is exaclty when i detatch from the hype, i have been around gaming long enough to know when they start avalanching a game, avoid forming any preconceptions because this kind of blitz is pure marketing. its like the ps3's massive technical superiorty over the 360. do you buy it? They are selling it hard. it wont be true,and if you are expecting it, you will be dissapointed. if you have been gaming this long, you should be able to smell a rat by now. I went in expecting a western rpg, and thats what i got.

With the PS3 stuff at least you got sites saying that this stuff is BS, you got sites like GameSpot debunking the "Killzone 2 is realtime" crap, "PS3 is a zillion times better than 360" crap, etc. With Fable and too many games the websites and mags are right on board with the publishers. I can understand publishers hyping shit, thats their job, but we shouldnt be getting the same hype from the sites.

maybe, you have been gaming as long as i have, nearly, you have to eb wary of the gaming media by now, they do this a lot. besides, we knew stuff was getting cut here well before the game was released, check the official thread, i think a lot of people ignored when the news got out that stuff was cut. the anger is out there, if you think we had "hatorade" here, check the elderscrolls forums, fable is flamebait over there. like i said, i have been burned so many times, the hype washed over me.

Yeah, but there have been a lot better games that did live up to hype built up for them.Resident Evil 4 and World of Warcraft come to mind currently.Hype can be a great thing for a game if its not spun to lie and mislead the community. Hype + great game = people excited about the game and telling their friends = better sales.

And that's one of the best reasons TO bash it. Noone likes to be promised they are getting one thing then find out its another.Some of us actually, like to now something about what we are buying. Personally, I need a little more reason to buy something than" Oh,look, an X-box game,"

I played Fable and had fun with it, and ill probably pick up this expansion - but I do think people have a right to be pissed about what went down with it and its promotional speel....

actually i take that back as posting any more in this thread regarding to my own expecations when it comes to a new title is ludicris as apparently you people cant believe that someone(ex: myself) can go into a game from an objective standpoint.

Heres my take on Fable.

I love it and it's a great game.

Is it anything like Molyneux said it would be? Of course not. That still doesn't stop it from being great just how it is. Do I wish it was more like his original vision? Of course, but that still doesn't stop me from enjoying it as the great action-rpg that it is.

The combat is fun, the story is at least interesting and the custom user's experience in the game is hilarity waiting to happen. I'll be picking up Lost Chapters for XBOX because I'm a whore.
