Thread: Grocery shopping

  1. NEVER BUY CLEANING SUPPLIES IN A GROCERY STORE.

You will be amazed at the money you save by going to a Dollar Store or one of those wholesale places. Buy toilet paper and paper towels in bulk. For a single guy, this will probably only mean one purchase a year for both items.

  2. I think my favorite christmas gift was my vacuum sealer. Since I'm not in college anymore I don't have people to cook for so I tend to have extra stuff around. Vacuum sealing works great on this like chopped onions and other veggies.

I also buy bulk amount of beef and seal it in serving sizes, makes thawing it out a whole lot easier. I used it on a pot roast I bought last year(6lbs is the smallest we have here) I cut it into 1lb chunks and I think I still have one in the freezer.

Otherwise I agree with the others in the thread. Stir fry is another great easy option..I made hug amount of stir fry with fried rice for 4-5 friends in college..I think the end total for the meal was 2 bucks a person..plus there were leftovers...chinese food is really easy to cook and its cheap...and rice is always a good filler food

It is better. Generic water tastes like the fucking bottle you're drinking it out of.

  4. Here's a thought: DON'T PAY FOR WATER.
Well that's like, your opinion, man.

I don't know about what generic water you're drinking, but Kirkland and America's Choice water both taste like plastic.

Don't do this if you're looking to buy meat though. The best time to get the best cuts is early in the morning. I usually go at about 9, after I drop my wife at work.

When we go shopping, we usually spend about $150. We only go grocery shopping twice a month, so this lets us buy everything we need for 2 weeks at a time, as well as some nice extras that we can't live without.

  8. If you've got an Aldi, you'll be just fine. If not, Safeway has a lot of 10 for $10 deals, and you can save a lot using their many discounts on steaks and such. I usually get a steak there for $4, tops, and freeze it until I need it. In the case of Aldi, they give you more for your money than any store I've ever been to. I can get a week's worth of food for under $30 there. Anything that they don't have (like dinner meats), I'll get at Safeway for cheap. Here's their site, to give you some idea as to the savings there. www.aldi.us

  9. I think aldi's is great, they have tasty chicken breasts and some good deals on cereal, milk, bread (extreamely cheap) and canned goods. Also this is one of the better places where you can get some ramen noodles that you can mix anything in.

Why the hell are you people rippin on the ramen?

Also I'm wondering how melf can afford $300+ per month? Do the two of you eat big meals or is it because of the kids?
