Hi all. I am sort of a Samurai buff and want to see some video footage of the real damage a katana can do. Any video links of "demonstrations" of katanas cutting things up? Thanks in advance.
Ha, I remember seeing that clip. That must have "smarted" to say the least.Originally Posted by TrialSword
EDIT: But anyone got any links to katanas cutting mannequins in half and stuff??

traditional test cutting was done on prisonors and such
they don't do that anymore
now they do it on rolled up tatami mats soaked in water over night
gives the same feeling of cutting through flesh
it's called tameshigiri
there's some videos on the site for the howard clark L6 bainite Katana some impressive videos

Thanks, shin! Checking out those links now:
Tameshigiri is the Japanese sword art of cutting rolled bamboo mats with a single strike. Each individual tatami mat is said to have a difficulty of cut equal to severing a man’s upper leg, which is more difficult than severing a head.

WHAM. This is some serious stuff, if one of those tatami mats is like severing an upper leg.
Thanks for the links, Johnpv.
No probs, But i think that one link is some what off, those big rolls their cutting may be like cutting through a leg (though theres no hard bone in the middle) but anyway one of those big rolls is actually multiple tatami matts rolled up together so to say one matt is kind of wrong
I have a couple short videos that are more impressive than that stuff but theyre too big to attatch here if some one has some space to host them let me know
theyre not that big
about 10 megs each
