Thread: OT: Scanner/copier with no PC?

  1. OT: Scanner/copier with no PC?

I was wondering if anyone knows of a scanner/copier that can be used without a PC, if there even is such a device?

  2. Photocopiers can easily be used without PCs, scanners I'm not so sure about. My printer can be used without a PC for printing pictures, cause it's the god damn bomb.

  3. They exist. They're just damn expensive. At where we work we use HP Digital Senders, which scan the documents and email them off to a specified email address or store them in a network folder in either TIFF or PDF format.

I think the least expensive ones we have still cost us something like $1500.

Agh! Go look at an Officemax or Staples or something.

There are millions of multifunction Printer/scanner/copiers out there cheap, as low as 80 bucks. They're basically inkjet printers and consumer scanners mated, but all but the crappiest can be used as standalone copiers. Just watch your ink costs especially on the less expensive ones, I often see small businesses buy the $80 HP all in one for an office use, and then run out of the $40 ink carts in two days.

    Pricing goes like this:

$80-100: Cheap, disposable units. They get the job done, but break often and have tiny ink carts.

$100-200: Main home units. Many are still cheap, but print pretty good quality for home use.

$200-400: Heavier duty inkjet units for business use

$400-$1000: Heavy duty B&W laser machines. It's worth noting a "light duty" laser printer can usually print a much higher volume than a "heavy duty" inkjet

    >$1000: color laser all-in-ones. Their aren't many of these, and toner costs are very high. Gotta love buying a $1000 machine that uses $400 in toner.

...can you tell I sell these for a living?

  5. Well, I was really referring to standalone scanners. I guess I should have made that clear in my post. I know full well the standalone copiers can be cheap as all get out.

Ah okay, it said standalone copier/scanner in the first post, there are millions of cheap copiers...

I've never seen something that could scan by itself, but then again I sell mostly consumer products, not much high end business equipment.
