In this scenario you are pretty much fucked unless you want to send your Xbox away to Microsoft. You should most likely just go with buying a new Xbox, because buying a DVD drive when you don't know exactly that your drive is the problem wouldn't be a smart idea.

If the 360 wasn't a short couple of months away I would(and I still might). It's a lot easier to avoid replacing it when I can just snatch up my son's XBOX on the 2 nights a week that I play online.

Earlier today I busted out Steel Battalion after a couple months and the pedals no longer worked, even though the entire rest of the controller is fine. I fiddled around with them for a while but got nothing, so figured maybe something was wierd with them and I'll give Capcom a ring later to see about fixing or replacing them. Then I put in CvS2 and my controller didn't work. Everything works fine for SFAC, the Burnout Revenge demo, DOA3, Halo 2, Outrun 2, etc. but in CvS2 the d-pad doesn't work and the buttons are hard-mapped to a specific (totally useless) configuration that ignores the button mapping in the options menu.

Anyone have any clue what the hell is going on? So far it's only those two games that are giving me issues but that rather bugs the hell out of me. CvS2 I'm not so worried about (I only busted it out because I've been taking a friend through the history of fighting games) but Steel Battalion is kind of a big one.

My 1st Xbox had a shitty HD. Bitched and Microsoft and got it fixed cheap. And this was years after I bought it. I would give them a shot 1st. But that Xbox took a shit and doesnt work once again. So I bought another. That one works but for some reason any game that utilized 720p is all goofy on that unit but the other unit in my bros room runs 720p fine. WTF!? DId I mention that that one doesn't load games up worth a shit and its only a year old! ARGH! Its like PS1and 2 all over again!
