zero the thing with ultimate boot cd
I got an old PC that I dont use anymore and is just sitting here. How do I go about wiping out the harddrive completely. I dont want to leave any valuable information on there or anything. I plan on selling the parts on ebay or something.
I've heard of programs 'zerofill' and DOS methods where they write datas with zero. Which is a good way for a noob and a more accurate removal method?

DBAN is the program I use to wipe hard drives on PCs at where I work when they're being retired from service. It's available as a bootable floppy or CD, and its standard wipe does five passes over the hard drive filling it with garbage, and then writing zeros over it. After that it's pretty damn difficult to get anything off the drive. :-)

Well that's like, your opinion, man.
because regular formatting leaves small traces of everything on the drive.
Like DMD said. It doesnt completely erase/get rid of all files. I dont care whats left, I just dont want any personal information on there.Originally Posted by OmniGear
