FWIW, I got a Seagate drive a couple months ago and it died in 3 weeks.

Defects happen. I've had several Seagate's and have had none of them die, just grow old and useless. Last one that I had that died was a Maxtor, but those are great drives too.

Odd. My Seagate rebate only took me about 5 weeks to get through. I've had nothing but positive outcomes with Circuit City and Seagate.

Probably depends on who's handling the rebate (since Seagate themselves don't actually do it--they have outside companies handle it).
