  5. Well, component is split into red, green, and blue... so my guess is they'd be the same, or similar. Component does up to 1080 resolution though, dunno about RGB (if they are different, that is).

    Component is not split into red, green and blue channels.
    Those are just the colors on the cables.
    Component has one channel for luminance (brightness) and two differential color channels.

    RGB can do pretty much any resolution (it's what computer monitors use).

    Whether component is better than RGB is debatable.

    I would think RGB would be superior, since it has a dedicated channel for each color, and at least one dedicated sync.

  7. They're roughly equivalent. Component caries YUV, Y = 0.59*G + 0.3*R + 0.11*B, U = B - Y, V = R - Y.

    RGB requires a lot of bandwidth, while component doesn't, and you can convert between them with simple arithmetic. The sync signals are sent over the Y cable.
