What's stopping you? They took out some of the good things from Maximo, but replaced them with equally good, new ideas. Play it on max difficulty though; Capcom actually listened to people whining about the first.Originally Posted by Mzo
I plan on buying this simply because of how hard everyone is bitching it is. I dunno about the rest of you guys but when games are that challenging it makes me feel really good when I finally beat the level or whatever it is I keep dying on, plus that kind of trial and error gameplay is perfect for a handheld game.
To me at least.

Naaaah. I still love Parish, but he said a lot of games i like really suck. A lot. I'm probably going to pick up UG&G too. I was playing the old ones earlier today, and as stupid as dying all the time is, i want to go back for some strange reason.
And Compass, it's totally a real shirt. He made it himself.

Bought it last night (US version). I'm very, very happy with it so far.
Like Strider 2, UGnG plays like a 2.5D remake of the original. Unlike Strider 2, the levels flow a lot better, and the continue system makes much more sense. Each level is broken into (at least) two sublevels with a boss at the end. On Standard difficulty you receive six lives, and you can take two hits by default before dying (i.e. two hits shatters your starting armor). Like Maximo, you can receive additional health and acquire different types of armor with different effects.
There are no checkpoints. When you die, you revive exactly where you left off. If you run out of lives, you can continue (unlimited) from the start of the sublevel. You can save your game after completing each sublevel.
In addition to the new weapons (the vine whip is particularly good), you can gather various items and shields. These items give you new abilities a la Metroidvania. Shields can be used to deflect bullets and often grant additional abilities as well. There are several types of magic available, and unlike previous entries, you can use it as long as you have armor of any kind, and some magic left in your meter.
The game is very difficult, like the previous games, but less frustrating because of the revised continue system. And the game looks fantastic. This is the kind of 2.5D old school remake we'd been hoping to get on PS2, but never did (Contra: Shattered Soldier excepted).

This is the best game on the PSP and the first new GnG game in 15 years and fans are gonna wait for a price drop? That is kinda fucked up.
Well, if it was priced reasonably in the first place, we wouldn't have to. I have a very difficult time stomaching $40 a portable game.
1. If the same exact game, same exact game in every way, was on PS2, you'd pay $50 for it.
2. How much did you spend on that Monster Hunter crap again?
