I've had a gaming epiphany (DS love thread)

I think the problem is the DS seems to play forever off of a charge, so I just expect the PSP to be the same.

That just makes the real problem more obvious, which is that the PSP's battery life is inexcusable. A system designed as a multimedia device, focusing heavily on movie playback, that can't power itself long enough to play Titanic or a Lord of the Rings movie? That's pretty fucking silly.

As for 2D on PSP, don't hold your breath. Sony's company philosophy for as long as it's been in gaming is that 3d gaming is where they can best take advantage of their endless resources.

Then why do you think it would happen on a console if there weren't handhelds?

I never said I thought handheld style games would be on consoles if it weren't for handhelds, I said that I wished that developers would develop their handheld games for consoles instead and that I'd rather have more console games.

I think a Viewtiful Joe style gorgeous 2D console Metroid game, with the exact same game design as Zero Mission, released at the same price as a GBA game, would sell very well. I think Nintendo could release a whole line of budget priced GBA style 2d stuff on Cube with their franchise characters and rake in cash hand over fist. Especially with the costs of game development rising.

Of course Viewtiful Joe is gorgeous but I gotta 'just say no' to cel shaded Metroid.

I'd rather companies spend money to make develop my dream games special for me, too, but I don't bitch about it not happening (although I am convinced that Gunstar Super Heroes is just that). Nor is that what it sounds like you've been complaining about based on alot of your comments.
