I got bit by a for reals Brown Recluse when I was a kid. Made a necrotic (rotten) spot on my knee about the size of a quarter & you could see the infection running up my leg towards my heart. The doctor had to deaden the area & cut out all the rotten parts. Fun stuff.

    New story:

I'm not sure if you are all aware, but I'm deathly afraid of spiders. Snakes, sharkers, velociraptors, throw em at me, I'm game, but spiders I just can't deal with.

Anyhow, last night I left the windows in my truck open. Every morning when I go to school there are spider webs all on my truck because I park right next to a bunch of bushes. Today was no different, I took them down, drove to school, end of story.

Later that day when school was out and I was driving home, i see this goddamn spider walk past me on the ceiling of my car. It wasn't just a walk either, it was one of those creepy ass spider walks. Being deathly afraid of spiders, I couldn't take my eyes off of him, and presumably got close to a few car wrecks. He kept walking across and stringing down occasional and needless to say I was sweating balls.

That continued for a few minutes until I got home. Then I jumped out of the car and crushed the mother fucker as fast as I could. I hate spiders.

  3. There's a really docile, but scary looking spider in australia the has never been known to bite, but it's killed many people because it likes to get into cars, and people often freak out and crash when they see one.

You can't really blame an australian for being freaked out by a spider, though, given that most of their native animals want to kill them.

Florida is home to many spiders, and we a watery/tree-y area behind our house, so we get a lot of them inside. Thankfully, the ones that we get the most are the brown ones, not brown recluse, but just common brown house spiders. I always transfer them outside, since they usually just want to chill out inside.

However, if I see a black widow, and it's outside, I won't go near it. If it's inside... Well, thankfully I haven't found any closer inside than the garage.

What's the real deal with black widows? The myth has always been that a bite will kill you or something... that cannot be the case though. I'd imagine people would get bit pretty often (in sleep, outside, etc). I'm just curious what thoughts about them are from people who live with them.

  6. Looks like some form of a barn spider, though those are mostly on the east coast.

One bite might be enough to kill you, but with the advent of anti-venom almost no deaths from spider bites occur anymore.
