Neo-Geo Pocket 2D Revivals on PSP

Capcom's recent announcement of Extreme Ghouls N Ghosts on PSP has opened a potential floodgate of the 2D series we grew up with being revived on the PSP. The best part is that EGNG is not a sequel but rather a new addition to the series that started in the mid 1980s. Given the potential for this to start a trend, what other 2D series would you like to see revived on PSP?

    Here are my thoughts:

    Actraiser (Enix)
    Bionic Commando (Capcom)
    Castlevania (Konami)
    Contra (Konami)
    Darius (Taito)
    Earthworm Jim (Shiny)
    Final Fight (Capcom)
    Golden Axe (Sega)
    Gradius (Konami)
    Life Force (Konami)
    Metal Slug (SNK)
    Ninja Gaiden (Tecmo)
    Beyond Oasis/Legend of Oasis (Sega)
    Pulstar/Blazing Star (Aicom/Yumekobo)
    R-Type (Irem)
    Rocket Knight Adventures (Konami)
    Rolling Thunder (Namco)
    Shining Force (Sega)
    Shinobi (Sega)
    Sonic (Sega)
    Splatterhouse (Namco)
    Streets of Rage (Sega)
    Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Konami)
    Vectorman (Sega)
Y's (Falcom) - Yes I know it is coming.

The fact that the PSP is widescreen makes in a horizontal shooter's paradise. Thus, I included lots of those. I am sure I forgot some great choices as well.

  2. Those are some good picks. On the shmups board some months back we were thinking an R-TYPES compilation UMD done right would be great (with 1,2, 3, AND Leo). Who knows, maybe we will get a mini follow up to Delta/Final.

Three franchises I am hotly anticipating and hoping for are Gradius, Contra (just give us the spread shot again please) and Klonoa which are all screaming to take advantage of my PSP's screen real estate. A Metal Slug would be bliss.

edit: I also wish we'd get some more old school multiplayer games like Puzzle Bobble or Bomberman with infrastructure. Mmmmmm.

Son of a bitch. There's an obvious one I forgot.

  4. Widescreen Super Dodge Ball (Technos, NES) with gorgeous cell shaded graphics would make me buy a PSP tommorow

Games I was going to also name but Yoshi already did:

    Bionic Commando (Capcom)
    Contra (Konami)
    Earthworm Jim (Shiny)
    Final Fight (Capcom)
    Golden Axe (Sega)
    Beyond Oasis/Legend of Oasis (Sega)
    Rocket Knight Adventures (Konami)
    Rolling Thunder (Namco)
    Shining Force (Sega)
    Shinobi (Sega)
    Sonic (Sega)
    Splatterhouse (Namco)
    Streets of Rage (Sega)
    Vectorman (Sega)

Oh yeah, I forgot to add Ristar, Kid Chameleon and Blaster Master

  5. It's a crime that Bionic Commando has been on the shelf for so long.

  6. I need to pick up a copy of NES Bionic Commando so I can see the glorious Hitler's-face-exploding ending. Whoo.

  7. Super Mario Bros
    Kid Icarus
    Pro Wrestling
    Baseball Stars
    Tecmo Bowl
    Faria
    No gnus is good gnus.

  8. Tecmo World Wrestling
    Saturday Night Slam Masters
    Vectorman
    Streets of Rage
    Golden Axe
Comix Zone (testin', testin', 1-2, Seggaa)

RoleTroll, you MIGHT be waiting a while for Kid Icarus on a Sony system. lol

Super Mario Bros and Pro Wrestling could take a while, too.
