The problems Im having aren't with the levels or anything... its just I dont know the game systems... for example I tried to slug it through Item World and lost an hour or so of time because I got destroyed at level 8 when a pirate came and kicked my ass. so thats why I was thinking of getting the strat guide. The game is ridiculously deep and even insane. It makes FFT look simple, and FFT was pretty complex.
You get your first felony subpoena in one of the chapters and it isn't until you complete that one that you can get more.
Go to the mail box next to the dark senate lady and subpoenas are listed by character. You get them for having high attack, gaining levels, etc. You also get them for liking boys, being a loser, and other hilarious stuff. Then take that subpoena and go into it in the item world, or go into an item you transferred the bailiff into. He will be on the floor that represents his lvl, so if there is an 8 next to him, expect the court gate to be on floor 8 of the item. Then whoever goes into the court gate will get the felonies, so make a tower and throw the whole thing in so they all get them.
I stole this list from Gamefaqs for felonies:
"Here is a simple rundown of the felony counts:
High Lvl (20), Hp (500), Sp (250), and all the stats (200 each) are worth 2 felonies.
Too high Lvl (200), Hp (5000), Sp (2500), and all the stats (2000 each) are worth 6 felonies.
Way too high Lvl (2000), Hp (50,000), Sp (25,000), and all the stats (20,000 each) are worth 10 felonies.
Mastering any the Weapons or magic skills (fire, wind, ice, star, and healing), in orderwords getting up to a lvl 15 mastery is worth 12. As a side note, its having 15 total mastery levels for the spells, like lvl 5 star, lvl 5 mega star, and lvl 5 giga star.
The most rewarding one is reincarnating 10 times for 16 points.
There are also a bunch of random felonies which I do not feeling like typing right now, along with "everybody" felonies which have nothing to do with character stats and they are worth 10. Although they cannot be acquired twice even if you start another cycle."
Yeah that is why I hate the item world, I lost an entire morning of work this way cause of pirates. I would prepare by having tink with 3 shoes, and a gency. So to get a gency, pick a really low level item and beat floor ten, get the gency and leave the item. Then when you go in again, it's your easy way out. I treat the item world only as a a means for felonies etc. I hate using it for leveling. So use tink to get to the next floor ASAP, screw finishing the level.
Def get the guide cause it will help a lot. Dark World is hard, but is doable with some work. You have to find 5 (I think 5) hidden switches in teh village to get the dark guide to appear. She's an archer at like level 100. Once you beat her, you can access the dark world. BUT you have to unlock each and every dark world level by doing something special in the standard version of that level.
I forget the parameter for unlocking 1-2, but it's a group of 3 moth doods that revive every few rounds. At first it will seem impossible, but once you have the essential team Adell, Rozy, Taro (who is a freaking BEAST! highest counter in the game and crazy stat levels), a gunner, a strong mage, and a mage knight all at lvl 50 or so and the right equipment, you should be able to do it a few times and then move on to some of the later ones good for powerleveling.
Also, there is a little cheat that will help you a lot with this:
Ok, so here's your magic ticket, which they talk about all over gamefaqs and doublejump boards and which is in the guide -- world 4-3. Those annoying cats who level each turn? Well capture them. Wait for them to level and capture one that you think won't kill your base (you can throw enemies into your base panel to own them at that level). So if Adell is level 50, then try for a level 100 cat, and make sure Adell is left in the base to fight. See where I'm going with this? Then use the level 100 cat to capture a level 200 and so forth. Worst thing is that monsters cannot throw, but you can use them as meat shields. Here's a video of how to do it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsXV9iYspTE
Personally, I do it a bit different and didn't take mine to level 9999, cause it feels like cheating to me...but I did capture 3 or 4 level 300 cats to use to soften up the darkworld peeps, have them come out and do some damage and then finish up to level up with your peeps.
Overall, my tactic would be to beat the game once. Go through and get all the story characters, see who you like, do some felonies and maybe unlock some new classes, but overall, treat round 1 as a breeze through. Then on play 2, go into more indepth stuff.
Red Co. agree with you about the layout of the guide, some of it is wonky and I need it bigger.
