Thread: Suck at games? Hire a game coach!

  1. Suck at games? Hire a game coach!

Commonplace in other activites (everything from pool to golf to poker), you can now pay top players to help you waste your time better (while wasting the competition better).

A couple of random highlights: A recent article in EGM glosses over some of the services top Halo 2 players provide, and for those who would rather learn how to play fighting games, Justin Wong is now offering his services.

Of course, most of you will probably find this silly and an absolute waste of time and money -- and for you, that is probably correct. However, for serious players (lawl) who want to get better at their favorite games, a good coach is well worth the time.

    Anyone want to learn how to play DoA:Ultimate? -_-;;

  2. I think everybody knows I need help at SF3rd strike.

not that I play the game anyway...
"Your soul better belong to Jesus, mmm-mmmmm..... cause your ass belongs to me!"

  3. That is ridiculous. There's no way in hell I would ever pay someone to train me to become a "game-master." Play more = get better, end of story.

  4. You want to become a Dead or Alive: Beach Volleyball Master? Hire Satsuki and I -- The Hyper Happy Tactical Rhythm Assault Squad! God Hand mode is only $20 bucks an hour away!

I am also accepting (Paying) students who wish to improve their skills at Castlevania II: Simon's Quest Tiger handheld.
    Play Guitar Hero //

  5. Anyone in the uppereast TN area who wants to take my seminar on mid-to-late '90s Turn-Based Strategy PC Games can go ahead and sign-up here.
    Time for a change

  6. Kids used to pay me to show them SF special moves at my local arcade.
    $.25 per move.

I really don't see how training with Justin Wong would yield better results than reading strategy guides, watching match videos, and working your way up the ranks an XBL.
It's not like he's got any super secret techniques, and nobody can teach ability.

For a deal, I'll even let you know which slot machines in the game room aren't fixed.

  8. LOL @ Xena and Lil Poison; they both fucking suck. Tsquared on the other hand is amazing to watch.

Still, you can tell someone strategy, and you can tell them what weapons are good, but you can't teach someone how to aim better and you can't teach them how to think on their feet. Paying someone money is only going to get you so far, and I guarantee I'd still be able to kick your ass even if you did pay for Tsquared's new BMW.

That's what I was thinking. Honestly, if you're that into the game, why not join "the scene" and just pay your $20 an hour getting wrecked at the arcade? Kedawa also has a good point, in that strat guides written by top players are often beyond the skill level of a normal player. If you can't do everything in the book, you're probably wasting your time with personal training. If you can do everything in the book, you've probably got the ability to learn on your own by just hitting tournaments. Good luck to them though...it's always nice hear about someone making a living at something they love to do.

I might be tempted if it was obscure stuff that doesn't have a following, like the stuff Mr. Whitefolks plays. It could be fun to be top tier in Weaponlord or something goofy...I've been trying to keep myself from buying some old pony canyon combo vids for World Heroes Jet for like a month now.
