I don't know why that whole thing came about. How would cutting your body hair make it grow back any different? When you cut the hair on your head, it doesn't grow back thicker. Some TV myth show had a bunch of people give theories on the chest/leg hair thing, and most said that since you shave it at an angle, it appears to be thicker when it comes back in, or ingrown hairs clump and such.
Chest hair doesn't bother me as long as it's kept out of view when wearing a normal shirt. That back of the neck/top of the chest and/or back hair poking out from T shirts is kind of gross.
If your hair grows long the base of the hair increases in diameter a little bit. Then you shave, and the increased diameter is still there.
Voila. Thicker hair after shaving.
