I just modded my JLF to raise the tension and shorten the throw, and so far it's worked perfectly. I picked up a pack of springs at Home Depot and added one to the standard JLF one, then wrapped the actuator in electrical tape to shorten the throw and dead zone. The stick has almost zero throw now past the engage point, and a nice tension that sits somewhere between an American stick and a Japanese stick.
