Ouch.
I'm relatively new to using sticks in general, so I have a noob question. I have last gen SF anniversary stick for PS2 and XBOX. I like the way the stick feels much more than the current gen Hori stick I have. It offers more resistance and is 8 way instead of 4 way like the Hori. I tried the 80 buck SF stick and wasn't impressed and went back to the Hori. Is the 150 buck SF stick similar to the last gen stick or not. I'm not too keen on modding unless its a simple screwdriver fix.
Thinking about switching out the JLF in my HRAP 2 SA for a Seimitsu LS 32-01. The JLF preforms better than a pad in shmups and fighting games but I need something with a shorter throw and deadzone. As it is I have already padded the switches on the JLF with paper folds to help.
Sure I do, welcome to TNL.
Take the actuator off your JLF and tightly wrap two layers of electrical tape around the base, and five layers around the shaft. The tape on the base will shorten your dead zone a lot more than the paper folds will, and the tape on the shaft will get rid of the throw past the engage point. The tape might be too much; if so you'll want to experiment by taking a layer off at a time until it feels perfect. Once you've got it exactly the way you want it, take off the actuator and let a tiny bit of quick-tite settle around the top ring and in the groove where the base meets the shaft to make sure the tape never comes off under the strain of use. Let that dry, then use a damp towel to make sure there's no stickiness on the actuator or the gate, then put it all back together. A modded JLF is the best stick you'll ever use.
The SF anniversary stick used an American style stick (much stiffer). The TE stick is not similar to the SF anniversary stick (far looser and it has a ball top instead of a bat top), however it can be made to feel the same with a very simple mod. You'd be unscrewing the bottom of the case, taking an E-clip off the shaft of the stick, and putting an extra spring under the actuator. You could also mod the actuator itself as I described above to make the stick feel even better. Then, if you wanted it to have a bat top like the anniversary stick, you could simply order a bat top online for a couple bucks and screw it on. Or, if you're really happy with your SF Anniversary stick as is and want to keep using it, you can just have it modded to work on PS3 and Xbox 360. It'd be a far easier mod to just add a spring to the TE stick, but if you can solder you could mod your SF Anniversary stick. Or if you're anywhere near Connecticut I could mod it for you, I've got spare PCBs for 360 and PS3 lying around. You could mail it to me, but the shipping on something that big and heavy would probably be prohibitive.

It's also very easy to just swap an 8-way gate into the SE, if thats your biggest problem.
