That start button placement makes me sad.

why

the only way you'd ever accidentally hit it (and I'm sure there'll be a button lock to avoid that) is either 1) if you mash like an ape, or 2) you have giant oscar meyer weiner fingers

I realize that the likelihood of hitting it is not that good! But I find it totally unappealing just hanging out there. Why not put it closer to the top of the panel or way out of the way like on the SF sticks?

what's really the advantage of that over the TE stick?

None; it's not supposed to be a consumer stick, it's a silly limited collector item thing.

not exactly a custom one, BUT

1) it's just a rebranded Mayflash so it's simple to mod,
2) that supports PS3, PC and XBOX 360 without the authentication chip!

Note: a 360 stick will work with a PC with no effort. I imagine the same is true for PS3 sticks?
