Yes but diagonal based maneuvers like qcf are like butter on an octo-gate.
If I ever used a charge character I'd consider the square, but for now it can suck every dick.
It's easier to hit the diagonals on a square gate, though.

You're not supposed to ride the gate either way so square gates are perfectly fine for, well, anything.
This stick is pretty hot!

What's this 'supposed to' crap?
big pockets is the best stick builder
even though blazblue is dogshit i can appreciate his craftsmanship
Squares can suck a dick.
I hate you, Destin.
I really, really like that vertical art layout. I may steal that when doing an art mod on my TE.
I was just messing around with the button layout on it tonight, basically bumped everything over one space and removed LB and LT; also put plugs in X and A, so I have the parallel straight-across American layout. I like.![]()
I'll change button colors later when I mess around with the artwork.
Why we got to argue about this. There is no perfect stick, it all depends on the person. Squares are perfectly fine. You're completely fucking retarded if you can't use a square gate to play fighting games (all the Jap cabs I tried over there were square, dunno if that's the case with all). Likewise, octagonals are fine too. It's all preference. I've used squares for over a decade and they are fine. I like feeling the corners (I do ride them a bit too much), as it lets me know I am hitting my shit. I don't like octagonals cause I slide off the corners too much, but then again, I am heavy on the stick. Nice thing is: you can have either with the cheapo sanwa snap on... American sticks are fine too. We all used them in arcades as kids and later... competition and perfect 360 sticks are solid American style sticks... most of us just prefer the less labor intensive Japanese style now -- that makes US style no less good. Lots of top-level American players still use American style... hell a buddy of mine uses an ultimate stick with hard spring lol -- he's gonna snap his wrist off one of these times.

"50,000! You scored 50,000 points on Double Dragon?"
If you have a small home arcade stick and use a square the force you exert will move the stick and you will have to constantly readjust it. I can see this being fine with a cabinet that weighs nearly 1,000 lbs. but for a stick that weighs maybe 4 lbs. it's a problem.
Octagonal sticks are much easier to do circle motions. I can see why people prefer them.
faggot.
