He was by no means a genius. A very brilliant scammer yes but genius, no. Most of his life and credentials were completely made up. When he was in the navy his superiors couldn't stand him, said he was irritatingly insubordinate and had to be committed to the Navy psyche ward for a significant stay. Irony, no?

He couldn't even tell the truth about simple things like he'd been to Sri Lanka and Tibet which he hadn't.edit: Forgot to add, Hubbard was also a drug addict (more irony) and many of the church's more "eccentric" beliefs (Xenu, ect.) probably come from drug addled sessions he would have with the founder of satanism.
