Thread: Bad system RAM: Anything that can be done?

  1. Bad system RAM: Anything that can be done?

I had been having problems with my system rebooting at inopportune times, especially when doing RAM-intensive activities. I upgraded my RAM (added another 512meg stick) in the hopes that this would solve the problem, but it didn't, so I ran some tests and discovered there were some errors on the older simm. I took it out and now the thing runs, fine except that I only have 512 megs now. Is there anything I can do to work around this? Anyway to have the computer avoid the bad areas of RAM the way you would with a damaged hard drive? Or do I just have to pitch it and replace it?

  2. I believe you're SOL on using that old memory stick.

  3. Fire and lots of it.

  4. Pitch it and replace it.

  6. should be able to RMA it.

  7. They want me to do it through the store I purchased from (newegg) so I have to look into that.

  8. newegg is really good about that. you shouldnt have any problems.

  9. Hm, nuts, same thing just happened to me. Well, I guess I'm screwed.
