Thread: Are PC133 and PC100 RAM compatible?

  1. Are PC133 and PC100 RAM compatible?

I'm using my old, shitty computer as part of an art project. The stupid thing chugs at times, so I wanted to do a quicky upgrade of sorts to make it work to some degree. It uses a 32MB and 64MB PC100 RAM and has another slot open. I have a 256MB PC133 RAM stick lying around, and, while I'm fairly certain it wouldn't work, I wanted to make sure it wouldn't.

...'cause if it could, that'd be awesome.
    Thanks for any help.

  2. It should work, the faster stick will run at the speed of the the slower two... provided they match in other aspects (i.e. buffered/unbuffered, SDR/DDR, ECC/non-ECC, and so on). The worst that will happen is the machine wont boot if the sticks are completely mismatched.

  3. Yeah, I've got both PC133 and PC100 ram in my computer right now, but all the sticks run at PC100 speed.
