Thread: Official MLB 2006 Thread

  1. The only other options are Chavez (who can't hit) and Milledge (we don't want to bring him up to sit on the bench, we don't want to start his service time, etc.).

If our bench wasn't so worthless (and Willie had a clue how to effectively use what he does have) then it wouldn't be this much of a problem.

  2. GET JOSE VALENTIN OFF THE DAMN TEAM ALREADY. BRING BACK DIAZ..BRING UP ANYONE.

I swear..the Mets have zero faith in their minor leaguers. The Braves are the total opposite. Whether they are good or not the Braves just bring up their young players and give them some confidence that they can play at the major league level. I know the Mets don't have much in the minors in terms of position players (besides Milledge, Diaz and Keppinger) but jeez..bring a kid up and see what he can do and drop the old bum (Valentin).

  3. Diaz sprained his ankle almost immediately after he was stupidly sent down last week. Not sure how seriously. Either way, I don't want him in center, he's barely competent in right.

I guess Nady could play center.

Valentin is wholly useless, but I'm sure we'll continue seeing him K in critical situations at least half the year to justify his ridiculous contract.

  4. Watching the Marlins play the Cubs now...they're a tough young team. There's going to be plenty of nights where they just don't pitch and they get killed, but when they turn out a good pitching performance, they're gonna be tough to beat. Obviously they're going to lose a ton of game...but I don't think I'd want to play them in late September with playoffs on the line.

Oh, and apparently the Marlins offered to trade Dontrelle straight up for Wright. The Mets laughed them off, which is nice, since this way I don't have to be tried for first-degree murder.

  5. Willie Randolph is dead to me.

If that's true then it only adds to my suspicions that Willis has some sort of health problem. You never trade a 24 year old left handed superstar starter. The Mets can't trade Wright under any circumstances, it'd be like the Yankees trading Jeter at this point. He's become the face of the franchise.

He has a great bat and I think will put up some great numbers for the Nats. I think he was recently resigned by them or at least had an extension.
At the time I have to admit I painfully accepted the trade. Vasquez was young and looked like a real ace, and we all know it's all about pitching. Plus Nick Johnson was falling apart constantly. To this day it kills me though, I want him back (although Giambi's numbers the second half of last year and so far this year make it hurt less).

  7. Please take back Willie Randolph, Spo.

Not really. Willis makes about 30% of the Marlins' entire payroll and will only make much more soon. I don't see why the Marlins would keep him around.

    Right on Wright.

OMFG Minority Hiring! Bring back Davey Johnson. Now. Yes, I am firing the manager at 12-6.

  9. Don't know if you're agreeing with me or mocking me...but Willie makes too many obviously bad decisions, and he doesn't seem to understand the nuances of NL lineup management. Any team can win "Yankee-style" with a parade of great hitters all around the lineup like the Mets were doing the first two weeks. Managers win or lose close games with tactical decisions, and Willie always seems to lose them.

    He's baseball's Herm Edwards.

Just last night...5 of SF's 6 runs scored after intentional walks to Bonds followed by big hits by the substantially hotter Alou. Both times I was screaming *before* Alou came up to hit.

    I don't find myself second-guessing Willie. I'm first-guessing him.

    I'm agreeing with you.
