Upgrade system is poor. I beat the game finally at 30 hours and unlocked all 3 special contumes, goofy weapons, and most of the reg weapons and accessories, but the only way to carry over is to play normal mode again. If I start a new mode, i.e. hard, oni mode, etc. you start from scratch. This pisses me off.

I've only played a bit of Onimusha 1 and I enjoyed it so I'm not burnt out on the series or anything which led me to give the demo a shot, surprisingly I had a good deal of fun. The combo system is still way too simplified especially after the DMC games but otherwise it played fairly smoothly. My only problem is that well, it's a PS2 game so I was hit with very grainy/jag fest within the first battle.
The main character looks kind of cool and the CG is incredibly good (if you're not numbed by CG already) with the voicework being pretty decent. I'll most likely get it for $20 whenever it hits that price so for now I guess I'll just keep playing the demo.
I'm in the opposite camp, I didn't really enjoy DMC after the first one. I've been playing through 3, but it doesn't feel as tight to me as Oni 4. There is a combo system in Oni 4, but it's more based on kills in a given time frame. For me I like the newest version because you have an upgradeable arsenal of special moves along with criticals and everything + you can switch on the fly between both characters + if you do a level 3 attack then hit L2 at max charge your partner and you do a super oni spell that rocks the enemy. I've always played Oni as a counter game, so for me I don't like that I have to be so agressive in DMC lol. I like to wait for my enemy to attack, react and then launch into a massive critical that clears the room (so yes I totally see your point DMC and GoW are still pretty much the pinnacle of 3D action games).
But for me, I guess I like the confines of the system. I felt the same way about RE4, I like that I am limited and once I have too much freedom ala DMC, I get bored. It's strange according to most people I talk to, but oh well.

Special costume 3 are the SF costumes. They are just for looks, but you also get music along when you wear them. Like Soki is Ryu, so you get the SF theme when you start the game again. Roberto as Guile is spot on. The others costumes are just ok. I prefer special costumes 1 and 2 over the SF ones.

I dunno. To me it looks the best the series has looked yet. CG movies are really clean and well done. It still doesn't support progressive scan though so that sucks, but comparing Oni 4 side by side with DMC3, I think Oni looks better, but I played them both in RGB.
BTW, in an unrelated note: can you guys tell me if they included the intro in the demo disc for the US version and if it's the same as the Japanese, i.e. Startin' by Ayu playing while they show quick cuts of the game. It's probably one of the coolest intros I've seen on the PS2, I hope they didn't cut it.
